I love Barbara Rose. A real participant in the New York art world with lots of knowledge. And she speaks in a wonderfully accessible manner, which is very refreshing.

Al Held was a sort of the Ernest Hemingway of the art world. Very macho, big and bold. His work reflects that. He was a member of my Coop on West Broadway and we almost got into fist fights at meetings. He had a strong personality and when I heard that he had died, I almost thought it could not be possible. I liked him.

Did he know any of the graffiti artists? Seems he was inspired by Jack Kirby's futurism.

Wonderful to have a real discussion of Held's artwork available online. The host looked a bit unprepared at times, like a deer in the headlights. But overall some great insights into what Ms. Rose calls the "Second Generation New York School."

The Empire State Plaza is when I was first exposed to his work. I go there often to seek inspiration from his paintings.
