The fact that you put ferrules on a data/serial connection almost gave me tears of joy - you guys are really on a different level compared to most sparkies. I'm hoping that you one day will start Artisan Nordics (One can always hope, right?) cause there's alot of cowboys in the industry here (In Norway) as well. Also - for the demo of scanning the barcodes you could've used cereal boxes, cause then you'd be scanning cereal-numbers 🤣 (I'll show myself out)

Just a thought for you to ponder. You install a lot of EV charger points and just recently commercial installers of the large EV fast charging points were asked by insurance companies to make sure they were 7.5 meters away from any buildings. Have any of your customers, with the appropriate mains supply, for a fast charger checked with their house insurers? Great video Jordan, good to see a professional with the work and the customer!

A quick question, maybe stupid but I’m not shy for asking stupid questions, what’s the opinion/rules about putting the markings on removable parts, aka the lids of junction boxes/isolators? By the way, next time you should consider cutting the flooring out underneath the batteries, if the customer want to replace them I’m guessing it’s not gonna be cheap.

Great video as always Jordan. Found this extremely interesting and has answered a few questions i had regarding the set up. Am i right in saying your zs value obtained was high due to the TT earthing supply being used for the back up installation? Also one other question I still have is regarding the ethernet cables, are you running them inside the same trunking as the main 230v cables? If so are they not prone to electromagnetic interference from the circuit cables you have installed? Should they not be run in compartment trunking and kept separate.?👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

Thinking about those incompetent individuals who installed the photovoltaic system for me with 2 BluE-S 5000D inverters and 4 battery packs on a three-phase system, it makes me furious!!!! Am I mistaken, or did you not configure the DIP switches in the video for addressing the battery packs? Would the controller work with another Kstar inverter as well?

I do enjoy these videos they're interesting and informative so thank you. I do have a question though. Is this battery system only powering those 4 sockets if the event of an outage? Could you wire the batteries/inverter so it powers specific circuits such as lighting, heating or fridge etc.? I understand perfectly why you need to isolate between the grid and the battery and that this isn't an 'Online' UPS so there is a ms of delay. but could they be installed so they power the whole house?

I'm not in the trade but I imagine it's the same as with all generic products: is the cost saving equivalent to the possible loss of technical support? In this case I have no idea about the support for the similar product it's just a suggestion and may be worth investigating before committing to purchase. 👍

Hi Jordan, I’m a keen follower of your channel. At 78 I am still learning! Could you answer a confusion about solar panels? If I want to do an alteration to my home electrics, say replace a faulty light switch why do have to isolate the supply from my solar panels? This seems to be the advice by the experts. If I am to turn off the circuit at the consumer unit and attend to replace the faulty switch, wouldn’t that be okay? Cheers, David

Hello from Germany, your RCD tripped in 126 ms. In Germany they have to trip within 200ms or 400ms depending on the earthing arrangement. But in reality they trip much faster. Most RCDs in Germany trip within 30ms. So my stupid question is: Is 126ms a common time for a RCD to trip in the UK? Because the time should only depend on the RCd itself. And in the UK I have always seen the same brands than in Germany. I must admit that I am a little confused.

@aaronmdjones
@aaronmdjones Жыл бұрын
They're wired in antiparallel. Inverter negative goes to battery 1, then 2, then 3, ... while the inverter positive goes to battery n, then n-1, then n-2, ... This ensures that the total positive and negative lead length combined is the same for every battery.

@aaronmdjones
@aaronmdjones Жыл бұрын
@@brettjtodd The combined lead length of *both positive and negative* from *any single battery to the inverter* is the same. This doesn't depend on the overall positive lead length being the same as the overall negative lead length. The red lead is longer because it needs to drop down and snake over and all the way up to the other battery. But for every time the positive lead length increases by one battery's worth, the negative lead length decreases by the same amount, because the batteries are a fixed distance from eachother and there's very little slack.

This now has a new 10mm bond. All good. Until I just discovered the plumbers piped in copper under a concrete floor to the kitchen sink. 2 meters away. The 2 copper pipes under the sink seem to be linked with what looks like a 4mm cable. Is this satisfactory or do you need to bring a 10 mm to this location as it pipes come up from the concrete again.

Careful with type A RCD on the backup socket as it is possible it won’t trip in an earth fault due to DC blinding. The test button might work but it may not trip in a fault if there is DC leakage. Type B only and might be even better to swap the internal Libbi backup Isolator for an RCBO.

The Libbi won’t be able to do anything with an export limit as it has no control over the Solaredge inverter where the PV is connected. The export limit should be left on the Solaredge if an export limit is mandated at that property.

9:50 also if you've got a separate PV inverter then in theory at least you can self-power a larger load. If your house is using 8KW in the middle of the day and you really don't want to pull anything from the grid you can take e.g. 5KW from the solar and 3KW from the batteries simultaneously. If you only have one hybrid 5KW inverter then even if you have a full battery and the sun is shining you're still limited to supplying 5KW total

Hey, I’m a bit confused about the EPS earth rod being connected to the MET? Doesn’t that defeat the object of completely isolating the grid side of the installation? I thought it was a discrete earth feeding the EPS side only. In the event of a fault occurring on the EPS side, aren’t you potentially feeding current into the grid earth via the MET? I thought the EPS side has its own TT earth attached to nothing else.

@ShaneOSullivanky
@ShaneOSullivanky Жыл бұрын
Type AC RCBOs shouldn’t be used on solar PV as it is prone to blinding from DC leakage from the inverter. Type B RCBO should only be used but 30mA are prone to nuisance tripping hence why myenergi are recommending MCBs in the UK.
@aaronmdjones
@aaronmdjones Жыл бұрын
Alternating current means that the current travels bidirectionally yes, however that doesn't tell you which direction *power* is traveling in. Using the conventional model of current flow, if the AC voltage were on the positive half of the sine wave (line is above neutral), and current were traveling from the input to the output, then power is traveling from input to output. However, if current were traveling from output to input, then power would be traveling from output to input. This is how you determine import vs export. What Jordan is saying is that apparently the test functionality on these RCBOs does not work when power (not current) is traveling from the load terminals to the supply terminals.

I'm all for safety but even the handling restriction in the manual seems a little over cautious. The Libbi is LFP and in the words of Dr Euan McTurk, "It's basically a rust battery, you'd have to do something monumentally stupid to get it to catch fire" These type of battery chemistry doesn't get hot enough on it's own to become self sustaining. It'd be like trying to light a flame retardant couch on fire. You could definitely do it, you'd just have to put a whole lot of effort in.

I really doubt that any portable fire extinguisher would put those packs out once it started. You might be able to put the cardboard box out, but the battery itself will continue to burn. I know firefighting an EV once started can take 30,000-50,000 gallons to extinguish. A 50 lb ABC Wheeled Fire Extinguisher that weighs in at almost 200 lbs on a cart only will operate for 35 seconds. Its s completely silly requirement for sure for the transporter to attempt this even at all. You get out and walk away while calling the fire dept and tell them where the melted pile of metal and plastic, uh van I mean, will be located. 🚒🧯🔥

Well no, because these aren't Lithium Ion batteries. Lithium Iron Phospate are a totally different beast, and are probably safer than the lead acid that starts the van. If you were using a Tesla Powerwall, then yes, they use Li-Ion and are likely to melt a flaming hole in the road.

@@zstation64 Completely agree with you. Just funny that they want you to carry a portable ABC extinguisher to put out a large lithium battery fire in the first place. Every commercial vehicle is required to have an extinguisher here in the US, but typically it's not for you, its to help the other guy that might need it. 🤠👍 My guess is that if your van is on fire you won't go inside to grab it and then open the doors where all the fire is to try and to put 20+ kWh or more out. That is why the fire dept is there to help out. 🚒
