It's a harsh world for artists. People who don't respect the hard work any artist puts into their work honestly has no business placing commissions for their art. Further more, if anyone steals another person's art and claims it's their own artwork then they are a massive scum bag.

I hate it when they say 'the watermark ruins it' because no, it doesn't. It doesn't affect anything at all. Watermarks are there for a reason which is to prevent people from stealing it and just smacking it onto possibly-scam merch.
@StarSonata108 жыл бұрын
Those people just had never produce their own work of something, hence they'll never experience what it felt like getting their hard work results getting stolen just like that. Or they just don't understand what's the point of watermarks. Either way, people seriously need to respect an artist work any way they could.
@kkay95988 жыл бұрын
It's just like you said. They really need to think about how they would feel if their art was stolen :/
@GaiasRebirth7 жыл бұрын
To be honest it depends how the watermark looks and how much it covers up, some artists make them to intenso or it has to many lines really ruining the artwork to the point where you can not differenciate between artwork line and watermark lines... but even watermarks do not help in modern days... you can photoshop almost everythign with enought skills..
@leah498107 жыл бұрын
I can understand why watermarks are important But dont have this giantass dark grey watermark over your artwork that darkens the majority of your coloring and linework it makes it look ugly and just overall ruins the atmosphere and aesthetic of the picture

My mother used to be a translator and accredited interpreter (in germany we call it dolmetscher, not sure if that's the right translation though, sounds kinda weird) She had to travel a lot, work over night and of course always made a contract before she accepted the jobs, but she told me that sometimes, her employers would come afterwards and be like "yeah since that was a pice of cake for you we will pay you like 2% of the promised payment" (extraggeration) And 4 some reason this shit dose happen a lot to asians. One of her best friends (her husband is a popular artist in my city, hiroyuki masuyama) was asked to draw someone for like 20€ she was finished after like 15 min or so, the customer told her "yeah that took to long, i'll give you 12€ for that" taking advantage of someone, because they'ren't very fond of the local language, is fucking ridicolous.

They just try to see by looking around and above when they pretend to ignore the fact that i don't want them to see it, and they say things like "but people only draw for the point of others looking at it!" or, "if no one else sees your art, you might aswell never draw again!" (real things people said to me). To all those people who can't relate, some people don't draw for other people, some people draw for themselves, and the feeling of apreciating their own art.

As a guy who knows a lot of artists, these struggles are all too real for me to see... SUPPORT YOUR ARTISTS. DON'T BE A CHEAP FUCK. IF YOU LIKE THE ART, BUY IT! You can negotiate prices, but holy shit don't say "Well this artist does it for cheaper..." That's not a valid argument. Just because some artist does it cheaper, doesn't mean that they're doing the same type of quality and technique as the one you're talking too. Art takes time and effort. You don't go to a steak house and get a steak that's clearly priced as marked, get the steak and say "Well outback has this steak for 10$ cheaper..." No, that's not how that works... I digress. This happened to me once: I was at school, I went to my desk and went to get something I was working on, I couldn’t find the drawing, then one of the Popular Kids, ima call them ‘Charles’. Charles walks into the classroom with his sketchbook, which is weird because all the Popular Kids hate art, he goes ‘Look at this!’ It was a completely finished version of what I was drawing, and he traced my nearly-finished work. I then later asked ‘how did you draw that?’ Then he goes up to me and says ‘Thanks for the REFERENCE! It really helped.’ Then I snatched his sketchbook and ripped up the traced work and got my drawing back. Ended up getting suspended for a week because of breaking another students property, but it was worth it.

I have never drawn art, paid for art commissions, or been involved in art circles, and even I can figure out how commissions work. Yes, custom art prices are going to be high if you want them to actually put work into it. You're paying for a piece of a specific person's life and the premium of their skill. "Oh but so and so charges less". Well, maybe their art style is lazier. Maybe they take less time to draw it. And hey, if you think their art looks better, then go to them. There's always going to be someone who prefers the style of someone who is more expensive, and they'll pay that high price. If I was buying art, I would care far more about the quality and style than the cost. It's not like milk, where it's all basically the same; all art is different, and all people put different financial values on their time. Accept that, or go to a different artist. Though, I can understand complaining if it was something completely outlandish. Y-know, some pretentious artist who sells a sketch of a dying flower for 600 dollars each or something. Or those designer shirts that look exactly like regular shirts, but cost 10 grand. You're a pretentious knob, and if you buy those clothes you would be using your money better if you used it as fuel for a fire to warm a homeless person.
@drawnwithlove34995 жыл бұрын
*#PREACHSISTER**/BROTHER* Yes, this is all very true, imagine if you asked someone to build you house, they say it's worth tons of money, you refuse and complain since it's just a house, I can just buy an already built house that's WAYYY better. Anything can amount to a ton of work, even something as simple as paper had to go through a long, ambitious, expensive process to exist and be sold to other people, imagine wasting hours of your time and energy to do this one thing for a person, with promised payment, then they refuse everything because it's just a simple job, and they found someone who does the same thing but do it way better, I bet you'd feel crushed.

In response to that I give you this excerpt from Max Ehrmann's Desiderata, a poem that has been a source of great comfort to me over the years: If you compare yourself with others, you may become vain and bitter, for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself. Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans. Keep interested in your own career, however humble; it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time. Exercise caution in your business affairs, for the world is full of trickery. But let this not blind you to what virtue there is; many persons strive for high ideals, and everywhere life is full of heroism.

I have an artist friend, amazing talent and people always ask her if she can draw them and I know first hand it takes her weeks to finish a good drawing because she does and redoes it til she likes it and has everything right. She super nice and always tells people she'll draw them but it's actually made her begin to dislike it but she's too nice. I stepped in (via her permission) and always told people "You want a drawing? Come back when you have 20$ commission" Some people pay, but most just walk away. Anyhoooo glad I found your channel XD

I have met people that thought even 5 dollars were expensive :/ Their argument usually goes something like this "But art is not something actually useful in the society, there for it should be dirt cheap to get!" . . . . . . . . :/
@hirofarre8 жыл бұрын
Hugo Santos Heh...you'd be amazed at how many people say $25 is expensive. Then you also get people who tell you that they got the same/better quality of art for free and say something along the lines of "Why can't you just do it for free?" like in the video. Annoying af to deal with people like that; which is why I draw for free but only when I want to.
@HeartOfClod8 жыл бұрын
I mean, it's a job if you ask for money, and I'm pretty sure you feel like you should be paid for your talent. If that ideology was true, then I would ask hookers "Why can't you do it for free? My husband/wife does." ._.
@hirofarre8 жыл бұрын
Hugo Santos It's hard to make art a job ^ - ^;; so I made it a hobby instead that isn't paid at all...people can choose to pay me if they wanted to though. I just don't like the hassle that is judgment on prices > - < I'm pretty sure other artists think way differently than I do though against these odds.
@HeartOfClod8 жыл бұрын
Oh yeah, I wasn't particularly targeting you on that analogy. I was just saying that if someone asks your to do something that you're good at, and it will take time, patience and concentration, you have the right to ask for money; it's something that you're better at than most people.

Thats considered tracing.

Ah. I was in that era when I was like young??? But then I realized I felt guilty and decided to credited them back. Now I’m currently 12 years old and actually improving in drawing heads (hair, eyes, noses, mouth, not so much with the ears) :DD Much more refreshing than tracing, cuz it makes it feel like I ACTUALLY DREW IT. I guess I was just not a sucker for guilt. I guess I could give you a pass for tracing things in such a young age unless you’re bragging too much and still currently doing it.

+II-_ZiggZagg_-II. Going to art school? You should read "Don't go to Art School" written by Noah Bradley. He has lots of practical advices that every art student can learn from. He's not saying that everyone should stop going to art school altogether. He himself has been to art school before. But he suggests that you can achieve pretty much the same level without spending a fortune at art schools.
@SteamSigun8 жыл бұрын
idk, I have mixed feelings about the 'Don't go to Art School' plus I guess it depends on at which country's art schools we're looking at and what kind of art schools. I used to be on IT engineer studies with graphics, turned out it was mostly IT and nothing about graphic; now I moved to art school with focus on digital stuff (wikipedia suggests its english equivalent is bachelor of arts) but with a variety of traditional media activities (which I consider great, there are great computer sets here, if we need to we can use them after classes as long as the building is open and for example we can use an actual press for linocuts, which is not something anyone can just have at home). Now I feel like I made a right choice. Other good things are you can talk with professionals who work at many various fields of arts (not some sort of staying only at school professors who are out of touch with what is happening; you don't have to agree 100% with everything they say, since many of them have their 'religions'- certain lists of 'do's & 'don't's, but still I would advise to hear them out). Besides that, it kinda puts the pressure of deadlines, so you just go with it and it kinda helps to stay productive. But there's also other kinds of art school, academy of fine arts is a totally different experience even though you also get b-o-a degree. Overall, I decided to spend the money on a-s, of course I could've spent it on high-end custom built pc + software, books, online and real-life courses, but I know it'd be more stress-inducing (what would be bad for my episodes of depression) and I wouldn't have the opportunity to meet all those people (which may be weird considering slight social anxiety and dislike of crowded areas), already at first year I've learned quite a lot and I suppose I wouldn't find some of that knowledge online, or at least not that quickly. On final note, I disagree with the comment about imitation part. Yes, there are tasks everyone does to learn basics, but -at least in my case- later on it's up to us to decide what we're doing. But hey, overall it's up to you, only you know what appeals the most to you and we, random people here, don't know your situation or how are things where you live (well, unless they happen to live nearby); whatever your decisions are, wish you best luck on finding best thing for you :D
@TheHiroyukiutatane8 жыл бұрын
SteamSigun It all depends on the art school. If you go to a training school where it directly gets you prepared for professional, real works that you'll be doing for companies, that's a good place. Noah Bradley also talked about the pressure of deadline and how it pushes you over your limit. However, he still believes that the amount of money he put into the art school was not well worth it and could have been spent differently and more efficiently. THUS he PROVIDED alternatives, books, tutorials, and other resources at the end of his articles if you do not plan to go to art school but still want to be able to achieve to the same level as he is or higher. It's not just an opinion piece. It's a helpful guideline made by a professional painter to help out his fellow artists.
