IDEA!: I'm always fascinated by the images of characters right at the point that they face being broken, when everything goes absolutely wrong. Goku when Krillin dies and his desperation forces him to go super saiyan for the first time. Characters whose worse nightmare has just become reality, whose loved one has died, and they are on that moment between breaking/losing it and giving in, or turning into a beast of themselves to fight back. Just before that big play or the big self-sacrifice. I would love to see that applied to characters from any fiction who might have never been pictured in that scenario. It's maybe a darker concept to draw but Julia's Vegeta inspired some thoughts on it.

The way Julia did hers is close to how I do my digital work. Sketch it out, cover it up with the colors (or put the colors under), follow certain lines for shading and blend them out nicely, and continue with adding details and lighting etc.

I really like how you chose more specific influences to take off of. I'd kinda like...I don't know how to put it other than "trashy", which feels mean, but there's something I like about old, kinda dumb styles that wound up getting used in media that was basically designed to be disposable, like pulp novels or advertisements or magazines. I've always felt there was something interesting in putting design work into something meant to grab attention once and only accidentally has deeper detail or meaning. Or barring that, how 'bout like older anime styles like Shirow Masamune, Adachi Mitsuru, Rui Araizumi, or Monkeypunch. Styles that you kinda don't see a lot of these days but were real big back in the day and part of what made anime seem so weird and new in the west when it first dropped.

Don Bluth was also responsible for the arcade games: Space Ace, and Dragon's Lair. Which are two of the most difficult arcade games I have ever played. I think I only got past 3 scenes in space are and 2 in dragon's lair.

Don Bluth left Disney while the studio was struggling on The Black Cauldron, as he felt Disney wasn't giving enough care and attention to their animated movies anymore, also he took 1/3 of their animators with him! he's a national treasure who doesn't back down from a challenge and isnt afraid to make his movies a little dark and horny! (Banjo the Woodpile Cat and All Dogs Go to Heaven 2 are my favorites, also he did some animation work on Xanadu, of all things.)
