Gonna throw this out there, his Sorry part is one of the best ever made. Style, tricks, VX, music, impact, influence, in a time before social media was everything. The early 00's were the best for those reasons just mentioned!

Facts. We were watching Skate videos for not only the insane skating, but hearing banger songs from bands we hadn't heard of yet. Watching this movie and seeing him/Appleyard/Boulala/Rowley/ and Bastien Salabanzi start off in those bell bottoms or whatever and then do that kickflip down a stairset where he landed with his legs crossed (or I guess your back foot on the front bolts and front foot on the back bolts). That movie was def a vibe, and one of my first 5 skate vids I bought on VHS with the bright yellow plastic cassette instead of black like most VHS tapes are.
@firtythive

@@phlooke for sure! Completely agree with you! Haha yeah Bastien's kickflip cross foot landing at palais de tokyo is legendary. And I wish I had the yellow cassette! Fun fact - Back when you could send DMs on KZbin, I randomly messaged French Fred and asked if he would sign my copy. He said sure and I posted it to Lyon, France. He signed it, threw in some prints of his skate photos and sent it back to me free of charge. I offered to pay for the return postage but he insisted I didn't have to. So nice of him to do. Something I'll keep forever!

I don't think people understand the kind of person it takes to learn how to surf 20+ foot waves within 6 years. I live on Oahu and have been surfing my whole life and I could never even dream of paddling out into even 10ft waves. It takes locals their whole lives dedicated to surfing to be able to surf those waves. Hearing that it takes 20ft waves for Arto to feel the fear is so fucking crazy and unbelievable I don't even know if I should believe it. But I definitely do. He's literally insane.

I drove up the coast west? (by the turtles)and around the northern part of the island back down to the marine base then back to the city. Those fucking waves are GNARLY. I am 50 years old. When I was 11 i came across a friends penny-board in their attic while playing table tennis. Since then, skateboarding has been in my life every single day. For the first 17 years, I skated daily. All over Europe. Brussels, Copenhagen, Malmö, Barcelona, Dublin. I still watch skateboarding everyday. I am so grateful for having been a part of this culture with people so creative and curious and devoted to the true core of the sport, advancing it day after day. I love you all!

At 35:20, there's an old clip of Arto doing a fs boardslide on a handrail - I was there and saw it as a kid. At the time, I was rolling around only but it made me realize what was doable at the time. No youtube around, and a few weeks/months later I saw my first skate footage as I watched skateboarding on Eurosport :D I'm still skating at 39. thanks Arto!

I'm pretty sure I'm the first person in North America to film Arto and it was clear from the jump he was special. I filmed him for his Platinum part and I hadn't seen a young guy like him since Rick McCrank. We went to this roof gap with Colin McKay and Moses Itkonen and Arto was really afraid of it at first. Terrified of the initial ollie. Then he absolutely murdered it. Jody Morris was shooting and said "Welcome to the world of Arto".

Menikmati defined my youth and passion for skateboarding. A time in my childhood that I will forever cherish and can never be repeated. I remember filming my own video parts to his CKY song and imitating all the motions and gestures he showed us in the beginning. Bending and slamming the board against the wall, running up the garden gap, scraping the grip tape of my board on the concrete. I wanted my video part to look just like his.

The friction between dreams/passion and business/commerce in an arena that is so physically punishing and potentially dangerous: It makes me really want an HBO-quality drama about the skateboard industry. I think it would be amazing! Anyway, keep creating great, important documents of skateboarding.
