Bro no one cares about videos that are so important like this one itself. Knowing details like this could make a big difference when it comes to build cocktails!

I want to compliment you on your videos. They are fantastic. Very informative. Very helpful. Well thought out. I'm impressed by your knowledge, research skills and willingness to share. You have inspired me to follow my interest in making homemade soda. I've been needing a hobby and I think this might be it. I've already ordered a 500ml dropping funnel from hBARSCI, but it's unfortunately on a 60 to 90 day backorder. The information you provide and the time you save people is more than worthy of being paid. I will be doing the Patreon thing. Good on you for doing this.

Thanks Ben. I suspect you will find making homemade soda, and other drinks, rewarding. It is complex enough to keep you interested but not so complex that it requires excessive equipment or knowledge. Cheers

I have been looking for a video or such on this topic for ages! I have always been confused about how people doing stuff like following the open cola recipe, etc can find essential oils to use that are actually safe to consume, when all I would ever find at the store is stuff that says on the bottle that it's for "therapeutic use" only. You explain everything perfectly, in a world where many of the other experts I have turned to seem to have no idea what is going on. Thanks SO much!

I have 2 questions... can I use vanilla essential oil and a few drops of vanilla food flavoring as a scented diffuser mix? I wonder if alcohol in foid flavoring makes it flammable. Only a few drops I'm thinking. To enhance scent. Thanks. Great video.

Your video is great I am also interested in trying to make syrup ,but I was confused when looking for essential oils in my country when I asked whether they were food grade, several online stores answered that their products were for type cosmetics, type for parfum and type aromatherapy, they could not guarantee that they were safe for syrup. are their products safe?

Off-topic, but have you ever tried to recreate Julmust? I would be very interested in that.

No, that's definitely a Scandinavian thing, though it sounds quite interesting. Might have to do more research, though I suspect it is a proprietary recipe.

I live in europe, and I want to use lemon and lime oil (seperately) to enhance my super juices (as per your other video). Whenever I google it if it's safe to ingest, I keep getting results like, it's absolutely not safe to ingest etc, when i google lime essential oil gras then it's approved. I believe what you are preaching here, I do. But I feel like i am not educated enough to put even a few drops to 1 liter into my drinks as i feel too afraid to hurt people. I did find one seller who claims there product to be bio + 100% organic. Should I just drop it? We don't really have a gras list here in Netherlands I hope to get a response 😄 Thanks for the content
@Artofdrink6 ай бұрын
Don't let anxiety and fear control your ability to make drinks. The "not safe for ingestion" simply applies to drinking the concentrated product, because there are people that promote that on the internet, which is dumb. Properly diluted that is how natural flavours are created.

I have always wanted to open a soda parlor, so I'm doing research now and will be watching all your videos. I want to make all the soda from scratch, not just buy other people's soda syrups. Is there a reason to go down the essential oil flavoring route rather than to make soda syrup by boiling real fruit and ingredients to make a syrup? I'm sure consistency and longevity are factors, but if making batches fresh weekly isn't a problem, using essential oils seems one step away from making it from scratch, and I'm not sure it's the right route to go down. Would love to hear your thoughts on the matter.
@Artofdrink Жыл бұрын
Welcome. Essential oils are more consistent and you'll find using fruit expensive because of the time require to process and cooking does produce a "cooked" flavour that doesn't appeal to some people. Historically, most sodas were always made with essential oils and it allows you lots of room to be creative. We have all tasted basic fruit sodas, getting creative by mixing different flavour creates a unique experience and people like that.

Great video. 2 questions. Does it make sense to buy certified organic essential oils? And, can you make your own essential oils? Is this a viable option or is it too difficult for the average person to do? Thanks for the great videos!
@Artofdrink Жыл бұрын
Thanks. If organic is important to you then sure, but most plant material is pretty clean and if they distill the oil it becomes quite pure. And it is probably not worth the time an effort to make your own essential oils. The costs are much higher and the time to make them is significant.

Thanks for all the fantastic content! Quick (maybe silly) question. The phrase I seem to encounter the most is "100% pure and natural" vs. ""100% natural." Is this equivalent, or does it signal some sort of marketing shenanigans? Also, the pricing seems to vary dramatically from one brand to the next. Is price a valid signal of quality in this space or is it more or less a marketing decision? Thanks again!
@Artofdrink Жыл бұрын
Both are the same, a lot of it is marketing speak. You can use all-natural or 100% or pure, all are equivalent.

I'm wanting to create a scented oil garnish for a martini style drink. Would it be possible to add say lemon essential oil and vegetable oil (as a carrier) and just drop those on top? Any reference on ratios if so?? Many thanks.
@Artofdrink Жыл бұрын
Possibly, you might want to try something like MCT coconut oil but most oils tend to bind up the flavour and they are not as aromatic as you would expect.

Is flavor oil and essential oil same

No, flavour oils are often artificial where and essential oil is a natural extract.
