Of all the people that teach me how to improve my drawing, you are by far the best. Your combination of explanation, demonstrations, and flow of your videos manage to consistently pack in a wealth of knowledge. You seem to effortlessly make this knowledge available to all. Congratulations not only to your developing mastery of drawing, but also the ability to teach it to the masses. Please know how much we all appreciate both!

I've probably watched a thousand art sketching drawing painting videos on YT. I think this may be the finest one I've ever seen. Portraits are probably the most difficult skill to learn in art, and doing them directly in ink with no pencil sketch makes it about 5 times more difficult. (Yes I try.) So I'm not sure people realize how incredibly skillful and artful this demonstration is because you make it look so effortless. Just superb. This is worth watching over and over.

Drawing in black ballpoint pen is one of my favorite supplies! Pen drawings really do make you slow down because each mark is final, there is no erasing. You’re videos are so inspirational. Hope one day my videos will be to this caliber

Drawing in pencil is tedious because of the fading and repetitive factor. Ink is more restrictive but less time consuming and shows up well

A lot of art teachers emphasize you should draw with mediums you cannot erase and i think this is the way, because you will never learn your mistakes if you erase it.

You are so in your own pocket. Even though you are an exceptional artist, i don't watch your videos for the art and the art advice. I watch because I enjoy being part of this world you have carved out for yourself. I recognize that your world is built on self-love and lots of dedication. Please always stay true to yourself and your vision. Please never create anything just because it will get you followers. I wish you to stay so deep in your own pocket that you can never be shaken out of it by external temptations. If you want to get weird or post something unusual, go for it! Go ahead and rub people the wrong way! That's their problem! ❤

I think it’s very relaxing watching your videos and informative, it also amazes me that you do it with ink. I’ve done it before with colored pens but not without references I’m inspired by you to grow to that level of freedom to draw without them references. I also understood the reference you made when you said that ink forces you to have a deeper intention with every stroke because there is no undo or erase. 9:01am

@DwindleFlip3 ай бұрын
Amazing... although the worst part about watching this as an artist is realizing how effortless inking is for you... and how near impossible it is for me. It's not the ink, it's the understanding of form, light and shadow, proportions, and the fearlessness and confidence you put down that understanding on paper. I build a drawing... you print a drawing. My mind can not comprehend how one does that 4 portraits in a row without an "undo" command to fix your mistakes :) Perhaps I'm not there yet, perhaps I'll never be.... honestly I dont think I ever will have that ability. My brain just does not process things this way. As a sculptor I can build and refine... but one wrong brush stroke and my ink drawings are completely broken beyond repair. I Can't see the total of it without sketching it in pencil. What you're doing is more printing than sketching or sculpting... and I don't understand how that is possible.

I like you're back on the barrels of your pens when first touching the initial shape with highlights in mind. While it is a dark Irreversible move I'd bet it feels more like a mid tone to which you intend on Goin darker on later. And I'd also say especially when warming up, or first getting started. That kind of beginning tempo can really be spread out to create some masterful pieces.

Tips and guides of how to question the output of creating last impression that you aim to draw in your audience to feel your art including what draws in researching this things, to do homework to learn about. Of all the people on you tube there are only a handful able to create a sketch on video without preparing a traced line art ahead of time, and that is Jess, Steve Mitchel from the Mind of Watercolor, Slew and Darry Tank, all others are only here to suck up our time for useless videos while only being swatch-artists. I like that Jess practices all the essentials constantly, figure drawing, portraiture, watercolor, pen, ink, pencils pretty much all mediums. I enjoy watching her.

Hi Jess 🙂 I love going back to your videos for inspiration. I was curious, and I don't know if anyone asked this in the hundreds of comments before, lol, but how long did it take you to start and complete that drawing? I've been teaching myself drawing, and I just want to understand that even for skilled, master (yes I think so) artists like you how long should I as a novice expect to take when drawing something as detailed. It might help me gauge where I'm at, besides looking at how well my drawing is or isn't done. Hehehe. Anyway, thank you for all you do.
