Another great adventure! So happy for you. I used to go on painting workshops in the South of France with a group of San Francisco artists. In a small village, I was painting a fountain in the tiny town square when a young boy sat down next to me. He had a shoe box with a sick bird he found. He prattled on and on about the bird, and at that time, my French was limited so I did my best to nod and respond at what I hoped were appropriate moments, "eh oui, c'est vrai" etc. After twenty minutes, he finished his tale and said "Au revoir monsieur" and continued on his way. He was completely uninterested in who I was and what I was painting, which was great because I felt wonderful that this 6-year-old boy shared a part of his day with me. As you said, small miracles....

I sincerely enjoy watching your urban sketching videos, as someone who has been too afraid due to horrible experiences to go outside for around 10-ish years now, this sparks my curiousity to exploring. I want to wander around in the woods and just look at every little detail of everything, feel the bark of the trees and watch how the snow is laying like a blanket on the pine trees and listen to all the different sounds there is. From the bottom of my heart, thank you.

Like all these episodes, what a gorgeus video! Your art, what can I say, is always absolutely incredible! And the way you just consider everything before finding a spot for drawing, like trying no to interrupt anyone in their ways or the way you talk to anyone who pass by and gives you a compliment is always so humble! Love this videos :)!

I have the most fun when I'm out sketching in public because you meet new people and learn new things along the way. I don't do it often because it's scary, and sometimes I feel like I'm seeking attention when I'm doing it. I have to swipe all those self-doubts away, though, and just follow my instincts and draw anyway. Thanks for sharing your process!

This was lovely. Reminded me how capturing a moment with drawing/painting in a way is both a record of history and creating a memory. And all the people in the video who asked you questions and shared information and watched are part of that documentation. It is the shared social act of capturing a memory, sharing agency about what is important, loving beauty, and choosing history. I’m having a hard time expressing it, but it’s really pretty deep and kind of at the root of what it is to be human. Thanks for sharing!

Your videos always make us want to get busy drawing and painting! Urban sketching is a challenge, but you can always count on some genuine praise and encouragement! We've mentioned in previous comments your choice of fountain pens for sketching- so glad to see what you can do with an italic nib! Another thing we love about fountain pens for sketching is the confidence you feel when people see you using these glamourous, classic instruments.

(aka OkieSketcher1949) You have just demonstrated why I love to do urban sketches in public. At first I did not want people to see me sketch. I was a bit intimidated and worried the criticism would be too much. How wrong I was. The viewing public has been so supportive! Your ink sketches are really something to admire. Your watercolors are as well. This combined with your ability to positively react to those around you is a real gift. You apparently have created a following of admirers, many of whom will go on to enhance their own skills. That in and of itself is a blessing. Because of what I have seen today I have subscribed to your channel. I want to see more. Thank you for this. I look forward to the next one as I go back to find your previous work.

This is awesome, Jess! :) I love the way your sketches turned out, as always! It was so much fun to watch all people’s reactions to your art! Please keep on making these sketchbook dates! They are really inspiring! :)

I really envy you for the summer blouse...Here we have cold unpleasant days lately, today was the first snow ot the season, not much and it didn't stay for long, but it counts :D No outdoor sketching until about March/April as I don't want my fingers to be frozen off. I never get any conversations if I sketch somewhere, but of course I don't have a camera with me LOL and people here generally tend to mind their own business anyways.

Thank you so much. I love snow as well!! I have painted in the cold with gloves but sometimes the watercolor freezes in seconds 🤣

What a wonderful video! What a wonderful place! What fantastic pictures! I also admire how you consider absolutely everything so as not to get in anyone's way, asking for painting and shooting permission and all that I recognize with half a filmmaker's eye, namely how many times you have to reshoot what where how with a second camera and return to take the camera down and how you cut and edit and choose the music. Great! (I've also built myself a field easel similar to yours, but I'm trying not to get caught painting yet, because my images are still far from worthy of admiration. And I'm happy to have everything I need with me at the painting spot and not have to think about anything else).

Stunning video, tremendous drawings/paintings too! I recently purchased a few fountain pen and inks to work in that medium. I decided on Noodler’s Inks and Pens are the best for me! Thanks for sharing your adventures with us. It has been quite some time since I worked out in the public, you did it to perfection. Thank you Jess.
