In this video, I show you the differences between the Supermicro rack rail kits MCP-290-00053-0N vs MCP-290-00057-0N. I also show you the subtle differences of the Rev B. vs non-Rev B. rails.

This came in handy. Got my first SuperMicro server, my first rackmount server I've dealt with in person (normally the boxes I work with are in some datacenter somewhere, not my basement!) and I wasn't sure how the rails even worked. I at least thought to ask if it came with them. It didn't, so I ordered a rail kit to go along with the used server.

Do you offer a service for technical support for servers in general? I am getting these servers soon and it seems like I could really use a service like this. Thanks!

Hi i have a pair of the blue rails and a CSE846 chassis, is there any video of these actually being attached ? i just cant seem to figure out how this would go.
@ArtofServer
@ArtofServer 8 ай бұрын
It should be pretty straight forward to attach the inner rails to the chassis. However, if you have a very old 846 chassis, these rails will not work with the older chassis which has "hooks" that are too wide for the newer rails. Is that what you have?

i have issues sliding out the inner rails. i can't seem to extend the rails enough for the latch to be accessible. also once i managed to release the latch somehow, but still could not slide out the rails... could not find any video on it anywhere...

@@ArtofServer turns out they sent me two right outer rails (and no let one), so i accidentaly slid in the left inner rail to the right outer rail. Finally managed somehow to pull it apart

Hey! Sorry to be a bother, have you used the 53 rails with 346 chassis? It doesn't appear as compatible. A stupid question, my chasis is a cm too big for the rails, is there any way to adjust that? Thank you for your time, Vic

Okay so random question about these things. I just tried to install these in my server, and the rails installed in my standard 19 inch width server rack did not fit. The rails clothes in the clearance too much, are these supposed to fit a standard rack or some sort of special different type
@ArtofServer
@ArtofServer 3 жыл бұрын
they should fit standard server racks...

heh. I thought I've found a solution to my rail kit problem but now I'm lost even more. I have a blue label outer rails with perfectly fine rev.b inner rains inside
@ArtofServer
@ArtofServer 3 жыл бұрын
There's nothing wrong with that as long as the blue outer rails are also rev B matched with inner rails that are rev B.

I just bought a generic rail kit (comparable to MCP-290-00053-0N), went to install it on my CSE-827H-R1400B, only to notice there are no holes on the sides of the server! Okay, there are some very small holes that look like it may line up with the small offset hole shown at the top of your inner rails sitting on the table as you have them. However, they also don't look like they go all the way through, rather bottoming out with another piece of metal just barely below the hole. Have you experienced this? There is no way I can see to secure these rails, and that doesn't make me too happy!

I bought the 4U kit directly from Supermicro, part number CSE-PT26L-B, for a CSE-742 tower/4U chassis. I looked in disbelief, the entire chassis is held on the rails with 5-6 screws on each side, each screw is the smaller than a motherboard screw. How on earth are these screws going to hold 40-50Kgr I have no idea.

I just bought a used pair of the blues and the inner rail doesn't seem to extend long enough for me to push the latch down to release it. I can see on the video your blue rails extend about an inch or two longer than mine judging my the mounting holes. Is this something I'm doing wrong, is there a trick to it or are the rails defective? Thank you!
