It's strange, this song holds a feeling I can not understand, it is mixture of reminiscence, no regret, the aftertaste of love and something I cannot name.

My ex-lover showed me this band....but ex or not, this song will never be any less beautiful. In fact, now that I understand this feeling, now that he's hundreds of miles away and I may never see him again, I think I love this song even more.

This song is about running into some you used to love and realizing your feelings are gone. Done.
@michaelh8789 жыл бұрын
A little simplistic. More like run into someone you have tried to convince yourself you are better off without. Whether they have been successful in doing so seems somewhat ambiguous. She appears a bit more bitter/resentful than she would like to let on "I'll send you a postcard from real love" and the last verse being a duet shows he's also somewhat self righteous about doing all he could for the relation thus it being her fault.
@anybody25014 жыл бұрын
No. It's about realizing that your love for them that you shared for one another in the relationship you once had is eternal. And then realizing that they are a completely different person today than they were then and you only know them as a stranger, so as your ex-lover they are effectively "dead."

it's amazing the change of perspective this song has given me. in december i had someone use me and fake a relationship with me to make their ex jealous. as soon as her ex came back to her, she left this song as her facebook status and never returned any of my calls or texts. i was left alone and dejected and this song made me break down. 6 months later, she came back to me asking for a second shot, and i was able to look into the lyrics of this song. I'm on to bigger and better things now.

this reminds me of sleepless nights in my friend's ranch house, tucked away in the wilderness and surrounded by 50 acres of orange groves. We'd watch 'Wristcutters' and 'Garden State' to the soundtracks of our lives. I miss those days spent without saying a word and understanding each other perfectly.

God that was strange to see you again Introduced by a friend of a friend Smiled and said "yes I think we've met before" In that instant it started to pour Captured a taxi despite all the rain We drove in silence across Pont Champlain And all of the time you thought I was sad I was trying to remember your name... This scar is a fleck on my porcelain skin Tried to reach deep but you couldn't get in Now you're outside me You see all the beauty Repent all your sin It's nothing but time and a face that you lose I chose to feel it and you couldn't choose I'll write you a postcard I'll send you the news From the house down the road from real love... Live through this, and you won't look back... Live through this, and you won't look back... Live through this, and you won't look back... There's one thing I want to say, so I'll be brave You were what I wanted I gave what I gave I'm not sorry I met you I'm not sorry it's over I'm not sorry there's nothing to save I'm not sorry there's nothing to save...

You don't actually have to watch the video, just sit some place preferably quiet, and let their beautiful, quiet voices wash over you. I love this song because of the way it's able to so perfectly convey that message of loss, with hints of regret but also with the knowledge that you've gotta to move on with life. I guess overall, it's just a lovely, poignant song and you've just gotta love the drums, the violin and the plink-plonking of the piano (: Best song ever

@Tumakas That's because Stars wrote this song about the movie itself. If you listen to the lyrics, it talks about how they forget each other, but they have feelings. The movie "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind" has a specific quote in it, "You can erase someone from your memory, removing them from your heart is another story." That's what this song is about. :P

I don't know man, that's the way I feel about her when I look back at the time we shared together. When I reflect on it though I wish I had treated her better and that we had ended things on different terms. It's only now that I realize how grateful I am for what she gave me. I want to tell her this, but unfortunately we went out separate ways and it probably isn't right to do so.
