Thank you guys in showing me a new way to build steps up to my tree house. I am living off the grid and had a ramp steps up that is hooked on to a hand winch to pull them up at night to keep us safe from bears and mountain lions from getting up to the tree house. But now you gave me a better idea to make it safer to get up to the treehouse and to keep beats and mountain lions out. Thank you for your videos
@GoodwillCriminalsOfDallas Жыл бұрын
Bears and mountain lions can both climb trees easily. You need to wrap the tree with something sharp and pokey that will make it impossible for animals to climb up past. Only that way will you be safe upstairs.
@anthonymalliris2089 Жыл бұрын
@@GoodwillCriminalsOfDallas not really I have only had 1 instance with a MTN lion and she was just curious. Bears tend to not bother the treehouse only the garden 😂

That wont keep either from climbing up, in fact may make it easier. Regardless he effectively killed that tree by "ringing it" and destroying it's cambium phloem layer.
@joshuafurr94398 ай бұрын
@@rcwatt9997I was wondering about this. I am building a treehouse, but I was worried that putting too many large bolts/screws on a tree would kill it so my treehouse uses 3 trees for support and my stairs are totally detached from the trees and just go from ground to the base. His winding stairs do look better and are cool, but they seem a little unsafe and are asking a lot of that tree.

Does the fact that the tree is probably dead not concern you. I would think that the wind factor might be concerning. I would run some support wires from the platform to nearby trees as a precautionary measure. I have built a treehouse or two and I always built in living trees and built stairs and platforms to get up to the deck. Be careful..

Not sure where this is, but here in the south US, pine trees are cut down as soon as we determine they are dead. Ask any insurance adjuster. Dead pines will be the first to be blown down in a storm.

I am one who always likes making sure there is extra safety backup, so maybe look into getting steel handles (as seen on kitchen cabinets) and drill them into the tree going up the stairs, so you've another place to hold onto in case the railing gives out in the future? Of course a safety harness attached to a steel cable hooked up at the top would also be good to have on when going up or down stairs.

I love your treehouse, very impressive. The stairs look fantastic , great design. I would have used treated timber though, especially on the stairs, bigger and more supports and not built it in a dead tree, other than that, it really is excellent. Just be careful , as other people have pointed out, it won't last because the tree is dead, the roots could be rotting as we speak .

@@izzyplusplusplus1004 Basic observation here, you don't pick a tree that is on its way out and build a giant structure in it. This is going to get someone killed. Couch or no couch anyone can see this was a bad idea.

I would have grafted a variety of fruit tree branches as your risers going up the steps. In a few years they will bond to the tree and you will have an endless amount of fruits to pick on the way up those stairs. If the fruits matured and fell to the ground you'd have a few choices about what's for dinner. Of course, keep the cross-bow up top ready for action.

This stair case was down about 150 feet so by the time we got down there we sure had our exercise for the day. Carrying food down or anything was very tricky.
