I've received a lot of positive feedback on my experimental video series of trying to explore the different sounds I can create with my Arturia Drumbrute Impact by connecting it to Ableton Live and adding a bunch of effects.
So I decided to make this tutorial to show you how it is done and hopefully inspire you to try out some of these techniques to make your own unique sounds and patterns.

I just received mine and only had like 1h of time to explore it. Can't wait to get back to jamming and experimenting with it. Like you said: possibilities are limitless. What I love about this one is how quickly and easily you get a groove going. Thanks for sharing the knowledge. Subbed. Cheers.

Great sounds! How to you record the Drumbrute without any latency within Ableton Live?

regarding latency, dont you still experience it when you hit the drum and hear the sound cone back out of the interface? Or are you monitoring off the drumbrute? And then the effects in Ableton have latency, but since you correct that in Ableton, you don't hear the latency? Like for instance, when you move a performance knob on the impact, do you hear the ableton sound match the movement perfectly? I always thought latency was inevitable when performing overdubbing into a daw through a interface.
@RandomNoiseMusic
@RandomNoiseMusic 21 күн бұрын
Latency is not such a big deal if you just connecting one piece of gear and performing some effects on top of it like I am doing here. If I had to play along with other midi devices and VSTs that could have been a bit more trickier.

@@RandomNoiseMusic i've seen that the Impact has 12 volts, i think you can actually battery power it by connecting it to a powerbank via DC to USB adapter. Just an idea!

How resource intensive is able ableton live and this process in particular?
@RandomNoiseMusic
@RandomNoiseMusic 8 ай бұрын
Not so much if you rely on the built in FX from Ableton Live. But for my experience even with some heavy VST it still no that intensive if you have a decent computer (I am on a Mac 16' 2019 version)

very noob question here but can you still connect to ableton with like a total out? I only have a 2 channel audio interface since I'm too new to justify the price of the bigger ones currently
@RandomNoiseMusic
@RandomNoiseMusic 7 ай бұрын
Yes of course, there is one single main output in which you can record all the channels
@RandomNoiseMusic
@RandomNoiseMusic 7 ай бұрын
The benefit of using the main single channel btw is that you get to use the distortion effect on the unit which really nice character to the overall sound

impact vs electribe 2 synth ver. in context of drum machine only and what device is more useful in terms of being creative in realtime?
@RandomNoiseMusic
@RandomNoiseMusic Жыл бұрын
Ah tough question as they are quite different from each other, so I dont know if they are really comparable. If we judging only by the gear acting as single unit then the Electribe would be a better option i think. But with the multi out option of the DBI, its strong analog sound, sequencer and hands on tactile experience you can get some wicked and creative stuff with a few extra effects

What’s the type of cables used to separate the sounds on the back of the brute to audio Interface?
@RandomNoiseMusic
@RandomNoiseMusic 2 жыл бұрын
Hey its just a simple mono audio cables - 3.5 mm TS to 1/4" TS. You can get similar cables from many audio shops. I've got mine from here (that's an affiliate link, fyi. You won't be charged any extra, but it can help support my channel if you choose to): amzn.to/3mD6NAa

does this machine have composed drum 🥁 loops already .. like hip hop, lo fi, or triphop.... or do you have to always build your own drum composition from scratch? can you change the drum sounds if the drum loops are already composed? hope my questions are understandable... I'm still learning music application jargon 🙏🎶
@RandomNoiseMusic
@RandomNoiseMusic Жыл бұрын
Do you mean like "presets"? if so then yes it does. The sounds of the drum themselves can't be changed much because it is all analog, but it comes with different presets and you can create and save you own. Hope this help!
@foolishcoyote.
@foolishcoyote. Жыл бұрын
@Random Noise yes....I understand. I fiddled around and found the presets. 64 of them🙂 I thought maybe they were categories or grouped 2gether as such ... the presets/beats don't seem to be in any particular order. I'm still learning ...I made a drumbeat using the step sequencer. i really like how you can randomize the sounds. i connected it to my mpc one and made this beat with them 2gether. hope you like it. thanks for your insightfulness & timely response 🙏 kzbin.info/www/bejne/eITcXoVpfNibhsk. In other words ; kick the effects in the DAW and beat the hell out of the (not so interesting) drum machine sounds. Point taken!
@RandomNoiseMusic
@RandomNoiseMusic 3 жыл бұрын
Haha thanks for watching! its more about experimenting and trying different things. I would not say the DBI sounds are completely not interesting. I love the vanilla kick, fm drum, hats and cymbal and even one of the the snare/clap and i use them a lot (i admit the cowbell and toms are not good imo). But after a while you can get bored of having the same sounds and just trying to expand the possibilities :)

@@RandomNoiseMusic I wish you can use decay on cowbell. Also wish toms had bongos as a colour option. Thanks for the vid I hope I can achieve this mapping using Logic Pro

Random noise. I’ve been so inspired by your videos I went and bought myself a impact drumbrute. Oh no 🙉 I didn’t realise you were using ableton to add FX. I don’t have ableton. I have Maschine. Don’t think this routing workflow is an option for me unfortunately 😏

Why not just send midi over the single midi cable. I’m not criticizing. Just trying to understand since most people have higher quality samples in Ableton.
@RandomNoiseMusic
@RandomNoiseMusic Жыл бұрын
Do you mean using it mainly as a drum sequencer to control drums in Ableton? You can, it just you will be missing the all idea of having an analog drum machine I guess. It will also take much of the tactile experience since I don't think you can map the knobs to send midi, if I am not wrong they can only control the internal drum sounds
@Romenet310
@Romenet310 Жыл бұрын
@@RandomNoiseMusic thanks for the reply! I just got the Drumbrute and I really like it. I like what you showed here as options of changing up the sounds. I do feel a bit limited by the built in sounds. I’m actually considering buying another drum machine that can do samples. I am fairly new to music production but I kept thinking I could reproduce the sequencing within Ableton or with a software vst but I haven’t found a drum sequencer that seems comparable. The one thing I think that really sets the Drumbrute impact apart is the looper. I think that is awesome. So I’m still deciding if I’m gonna keep the Drumbrute.
