Honest she may sound but a lot of pessimism in her views about the country and culture that made her. An activist as we learn of her from the media and an award winning fiction writer and an essayist she may be but all that wrested out of casting aspersions on every 'other' in her country. Sympathetic she may sound about the plight of one set of Kashmiris but at the expense and eliminating from her discourse of the other set of Kashmiris driven out of their homes and lands that they had been in for thousands of years by faith based fanatics claiming as she terms it and as the militants do, 'Azadi' ignoring the fact that they already have it like the rest of the country. I suspect her intentions. And I not only suspect but conclude that it is for her all about self aggrandisement.

Blaming the government for every little misfortunes happening in the country won't make you a better intellectual person. I think we should all lead and speak out positively to influence the country towards progress rather than painting it in a colour of darkness. I find her having very negative views about the country, problems like India has exist in every part of the world. I think she needs to brush up her old mind and see the nation in a new light and try saying more positive things. 'You see the world as you are.'

Violence? Muslim persecution? What in the name is she actually talking about? India has never been more peaceful, and less violent in its modern history than ever before. And it's steadily progressing towards a more lawful, and peaceful society. I would love to see some data, and not some anecdotal play on emotions. Otherwise whatever she's projecting is nothing more than a clever ploy to continue whatever narrative she's invested so much time and effort into. Communal tensions have always been a part of modern India. Gandhi was always very delicate about this. This is the entire reason why there's a Pakistan in the first place, because there's communal tensions. But to act as if Hindus are somehow at the basis of this violence is astounding, or that somehow the recent politics have uniquely risen communal tensions. Throughout modern India you have countless instances of much more widespread, and violent communal movements. You have 200,000 Kashmiri Pandits - yes the very Kashmir she's somehow talking about as the victims - driven out of their home with the threat of violence, and rape in modern India. You have communists butchering people in the North-East. In the 80's you have Sikhs separatists attempting to create a Khalistan which again displaced countless people in Punjab. This essentially culminated into the assassination of PM Gandhi, and which, I would say, spiraled into a vengeful bloodlust by the very Congress party that has ruled the country for past years. Not to mention the police state enacted by Indira Gandhi which she used to literally destroy political opponents by jailing them. ou have christian terrorist organizations in the North-East. And currently in Kerala you have political violence perhaps like no where else in the country where political opponents are killed often. Then you have 2002 which were fueled by Muslims burning Hindu pilgrims in a train, and spiraled into communal violence. Point is regardless of politics the communal tension has always been there. I'm not saying that there aren't Hindus in the fray of violence, but that simply the Hindu violence she seems to projecting isn't as monolithic as she implies. Not only that the current government is just as civilized as the previous government. They have done nothing extraordinary in their method of governing. Furthermore even with Hindus being the majority most of the crimes, and violence, motivated by communal tensions are in fact not from Hindus. Proportionally it's not even close. India is moving towards a more peaceful future, with a calmer society. There's no statistic or data out there that can prove the fact that India is becoming more violent, because that simply isn't true. Least prove that Hindu violence is on the rise.

As an Indian, I dont think India is going in a right direction. I like Modiji being a powerful leader and puts India as a great nation on international platform. Indians are getting divided. You cannot force people not to eat some meat. Whats then the difference between muslim extremists and them? Modi is going in a direction which Hitler did. Hitler lifted a bankrupt Germany and brought Jobs to his people. At the expense of millions of Jews! When BJP gets majority in both houses, who knows how they will change the constitution. When you use religion for dividing people in a country, you can see where they ended up in countries like Pakistan and Bangladesh?

From the other talks given by Ms. Roy it became clear to me that the essential problem in India is that the country is dominated politically and economically by the upper caste, North Indian Hindu. She is in favor of greater political decentralisation and the upliftment of the marginalised communities
@AbdulKhader-7867 жыл бұрын
No one is talking about a holocaust or destruction. Stop being dramatic. Upliftment of marginalised communities simply means ensuring their rights are protected and that they are given equal opportunities, that the system isn't rigged against them. Black people were a marginalised community in America, but through political activism they are closer to getting their fair share of the pie. The same work must be carried out for the marginalised communities of India, especially Muslims, Dalits and Sudras. The BJP-RSS nexus is the greatest political obstacle to the upliftment of minorities.
@vvee47257 жыл бұрын
Who is a majority in India? No one is a majority in India. There are only minorities in India. Considering the Hindus as a monolithic group is a mistake, but more than that considering the different Castes, Varnas, Gotras, Tribes, and other affiliations you're left with a deeply refulgent society that does not have the possibility of being monolithic. Only 26% make the so called forward castes, which even among themselves are not monolithic, and can be further fractured. Trying to paint BJP-RSS nexus as some conspiracy of the top is literally the exact opposite of the reality of the situation. RSS has a very strong trend towards attracting OBCs, and tribals, in fact it's the OBCs that dominate RSS and BJP. BJP has the largest number of OBCs in its party. What do you think happened in UP? BJP gave far more seats to OBCs than the other party gave to the Yadavs. What caste do you think Modi is? He's not of the so called "forward castes". However Miss Arundhati Roy is. The Hindutva movement you see today is incredibly inclusive to those at the bottom rungs of Indian society in both sentiment, and culture the movement speaks to the underprivileged in Indian at a incredibly deep level. In comparison to the so Secular Liberals of India which is profoundly delinked to the bottom rungs of society, and speaks a language and preaches ideas that are very much foreign to these people, and instead is the game of the upper class. In India today being an English speaking Liberal is being Upper Class. So your narrative is profoundly incorrect.
