Weird how Nymeria and her pack hasn't been mentioned in the show at all... in the books people constantly talk about them ravaging the countryside and also Arya wargs into her at night when she sleeps. i love early seasons arya and book arya. d&d making her into a robot assassin flattened her character into a pancake. arya's struggle with her womanhood/identity + journey to her home/family makes her interesting! anyway, little maisie was so good and had great chemistry with sean bean.
@MalloryNewcomb3 жыл бұрын
I agree with all of this! I used to be kind of indifferent about her character (I was more of a Sansa fan and got into this series as a whole gradually), but now I am like “hey she could have been interesting if they showed her trying really hard to get home because I could see her actively doing that unlike Sansa who was more trapped and a sense of accomplishment when that happened”. Her idea of once again leaving Westeros at the end really doesn’t make sense when you would think that if they did her character right late in the series, she kind of like Sansa would be happy to get back. That she would be happy to stay in one place instead of being on the move all the time as she grew into womanhood. Also it would have been interesting to see what she would have done with the journey of womanhood once she was finally back in a safe place - her childhood home. But instead we got a few yaaaas Queen moments and her leaving Gendry after they finally acted on their sexual tension, instead of joining their houses and staying with the one guy she ever cared for which would have made more sense for the story. The greatest chemistry with Sean Bean 🥰
@WlatPziupp2 жыл бұрын
What irks me the most is she had this multi season arc about identity, and she left the house of "you're nothing" with a big "I'm Arya, fuck this house, I'm going home", and then she turned into the emotionless nothing she just rebelled against. It's like she's a faceless novice doing a poor job of being Arya
@johansmallberries9874 Жыл бұрын
It’s interesting, rewatching her early season stuff and I’m thinking “was she actually a better actor as a child?”. She emotes more, has more emotional range.. but I suppose the easy answer is the Arya part just got significantly worse. The Tyrion effect.

Thank you for validating my silently-held belief that the actress portraying Lyanna looks like Emilia Clarke without her Targaryen accoutrements - it's the face caterpillars. Also also, I hope 29:48 - that you'll be making a triumphant return to theory videos at some point. You had a way of explaining theories and offering conjecture that was concise yet thorough and your more casual, jovial demeanor was a breath of fresh air in a community that often gets pretty self-indulgent when it comes to theories. I would literally pay you money. Like, more money. Commissions, even. Alsoddendum for shits and gigs, it's something of a common misconception that hollow bones automatically = weak. Due to the way the bones interlock within the body of birds such as pigeons, the potential structural weaknesses are mitigated via mutual support and the flexibility of both individual bones and of the skeleton as a whole compensate for the lesser density overall and provide protection against impacts from larger sources distributed across multiple bones, for instance from a car's windshield or from the blunt force of a starving and traumatized Stark girl - or in the case of avian badass Cher Ami from an 8mm German bullet and a handful of shrapnel. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cher_Ami The issue with the pigeons - as with all birds - is the size and not so much their bone structure. Small things just require less effort to break. Take the rabbit, for instance. Despite often being quite THICC and having a bone structure and density not built for flight, it's as if their anatomy was designed to be easily killed and eaten - famously requiring a single cut to skin the animal, and a single strike between the shoulder blades to permanently incapacitate. Not that I would know anything about killing rabbits with my bare hands. I would never do that. I use a mallet.

However, I do respect your opinion, and I'm very much looking forward to your future video(s) on BotB and WoW

@@nathanwang9007 bro... the thing with the Battle of Bastards is that it completely destroys any chance of joy for Starks. Jon fucks up so much, loses everything. Then Starks lose the battle. Then Baelish fucking destroys the Boltons. Despite her passing for a boy and having a lot of typically masculine interests, the romantic plot brought a nice balance to their characters. She’s a high born girl that has this friend that she cares about a lot and maybe some day they could be married. She doesn’t care about his social class, she just wants to be with him … they’ve traveled together for a while and she still likes him…. like end of the day she’s still just a young lady who wants the handsome guy to love her. Its pretty cute. I often liked the young love stories on this show because even if there was sexual tension, they showed more emotional range in my mind. There was more conflict and more reasons for us to care about the relationship. But that’s just me

i didn't watch their reunion because i don't want my headcanon to die in pain... a lot of people don't pick up on their romantic vibes in the book. i am not sure i registered on my first read either, but as soon as i did i was drawn in and read every arya chapter obsessively, and when you do that it is really hard to ignore, gendry's jealousy and arya's swooning over his muscles and just their overall attachement to each other... i think she is also jealous at some point GOD i gotta read it again, i want to see their reunion, plea- NO YOU'RE DOING IT WRONG STOP

people also are overly weirded out by their age gaps, gendry is 15 and Arya is 11max i think, but i definitely had crushes on 15 year olds as an 11 year old and they survive a lot of shit together, arya saves gendry's ass multiple times and has many skills that he lacks, so it makes a lot of sense that he doesn't think, yeah cute kid but soooo immature and childish, yanow, i don't think he feels older than her. Or more experienced or anything. And 4 years isn't even a lot, this kinde of ages gap grows out my gawd eye roll. in the show gendrys actor is in his young 20ies i think and arya really is in comparison definitely a child, so i get why the actors are weirded out

Fact 1: Glidus used Rush music in some of his older videos. Fact 2: In this video he used Plants vs. Zombies music. Fact 3: Glidus has now referenced frickin' bionicles. Logical Conclusion: Glidus lives in my brain and has perfectly crafted this channel to appeal to me. Seriously though, your channel is totally underrated and one of my favorites. The random references to things I happen to also enjoy are just a bonus.

I think that connecting Syrio to the faceless men is a bad idea. It messes up the contrast of Syrio to the faceless men and muddies the waters. To elaborate, Syrio was a bravo, who are swordsmen who dress up in flamboyant colors and duel each other for honor at the drop of a hat. Syrio's greatest title is that he was the First Sword to the Sea Lord and he explicitly both says that he never runs and later dies protecting Arya. He also says that he was First Sword because he had the best sight and there's one major reason why the Sea Lord would want his bodyguard to have great sight. To say that Syrio is an antithesis to a faceless man is a tremendous understatement. That one, show only, line about the god of death is the entire reason why people think Syrio is a faceless man.

The Diddy Kong Racing music I can’t! Little ( well littler) Arya was so cute I want to die. Would have loved to see more interaction between her and Robb and Jon

The “that’s not me” line bothers me. In the book, it didn’t feel to me like she was asserting her gender non conformity, or strength, or some agency over her future. It sounded more just like a frustrated petulant child going “god dad can you even tell me and Sansa apart?” Like she wasn’t even thinking about it, she just automatically assumes he’s thinking of the wrong daughter and corrects him, that’s how much she kinda takes her identity for granted. I feel like it’s partly because she’s aged up in the show, and maybe a kid that age is more aware of the significance of the whole exchange. Idk, my interpretation. The “that’s not you” line made me feel queasy 🤷♀️

That's quite true. Book Arya isn't really about gender non conformity, it's really more about being different from Sansa. Sansa and her are very different but also quite young so, as siblings do, they fight and get jealous when their parents recognise the other more. Arya is jealous of Sansa for being so good at all the lady stuff because their parents want them to do well but it's just not her thing. Sansa, on the other hand, is frustrated at the fact that Arya can just do whatever she wants (fighting, getting covered in dirt etc) without it really bothering their parents while Sansa makes so much efforts to conform. It's really just two children seeing how the other gets their parents' attention without realising they're getting a lot too. It's a bit sad that D&D decided it wasn't so much about family and more about gender.

@@lastquarter3992 I agree. Because people were like “oh my gosh she’s such a girl boss and a revolutionary character” and I wanted to understand her character but aside from her bits with the Hound I couldn’t get the hype (my ticket into this show was the Sansa-Tyrion storyline, followed by Dany-Ser Jorah and then the Mormonts thanks to Daemon Blackfyre). We have had warrior women as a part of our lore at the very latest since Joan of Arc. So that archetype is something we have seen before and really, Arya’s story isn’t so much about being a warrior to me. To me, I think people liked Arya because they saw she was true to herself. That’s something that can resonate regardless of gender. If anything I remember guys talking more about how much they liked Arya’s character than girls. A more interesting statement than trying to push her as a progressive kind of character in my mind would be “what do guys recognize about the character that makes her strong character?” Is it that she hasn’t got Ned around anymore? That she’s a contradiction of both innocence, toughness and arrested development? I think Dave and Dan want to be progressive but they fail: Arya basically became a plot device than anything at the end and that is not a leadership quality or an empowering archetype of femininity. And don’t even get me started with the whole idea of being raped made Sansa a capable leader because that was just messed up

yeah this line gets totally overblown... and then they use it to excuse to never show nymeria again, i had such blue balls for that reunion and then it's just over... and people where like, oooh so deep, amazing, that's not YOU like season 1, ooo i think this is when i realized that got wasn't gonna be good anymore. At the timr i was really alone with that realization. the good thing about the overly bad ending is that we all can agree on the bad shit and i don't feel overly nitpicky anymore
