Well being a Rajasthani, i can say it's true! Police in Rajasthan are so corrupted they can do anything to satisfy their self ego. Honestly, I for the first time in life visited Jaipur, Rajasthan in January, and the moment I reached first red light, I accidentally overstepped it because the red light was not visible as a Bus deboarding few of its passengers was standing in front of me. But the few policeman along with a lady policemen stopped and threatened me that they will suspend my licence and indirectly forced me to pay them money. After I paid the money, they suddenly became friendly and show me the way.

Police may have heavy handed approach but common knowledge is you should always in deescalation mode dealing with authorities. You have grown up in India and know how police is and they have challenges too. When they were in reconciliatory mode just say thank you and leave. No one is perfect.
