I do understand that it is a former Baltic and Lithuanian people as well as Russians, and it can have multiple interpretations, but today is basically undoubtedly interchangeable, so I’m not sure what you mean. And as far as I know, she loves her country as well, and even generally in the current state that it is in, as she has alluded to before, I believe formerly on social media as well.

The Balts or Slavic-Baltic peoples are ethnic groups that included Lithuanian tribes, Yotvingians, Prusai (having nothing to do with the later Kingdom of Prussia). Belarusians are Eastern Slavs or Ruthenians. The Ruthenians are an ethnic group to which the tribes of Eastern Slavs belonged, which later created several nations. Western Slavs are Poles, Czechs or Slovaks, whose language was almost the same until the 14th century, and yet in the early Middle Ages they split into several nations. Later colonizations and national affiliations have nothing to do with national consciousness. This is not changeable when a nation still fights for freedom, even for several hundred years. We Poles did not become Russians, Austrians, Swedes or Germans just because they occupied us for several hundred years. You pretend to speak respectfully, but what you write about nations that have been colonized is offensive.

Aryna had an official meeting with dictator Lukashenko after her successes. It's part of the tribute that pays in a dictatorial state. I don't blame her, but Polish athletes in the 80's were boycotted for what was happening in Poland, even though it wasn't their fault and no one felt sorry for them. Everyone makes a fuss when it comes to Russia and Belarus and they have empathy for them. Maybe when Americans are finally banned from using flags, justice will be enough and everyone will stop shouting in defense of Eastern European dictatorships.
