Somehow this has eluded! I've been a huge fan of Moebius ever since I read the Inkal as a teenager, and went on a binge over the course of a few years to attempt to read most of his original stuff (never quite got into Blueberry, I'm afraid). The fact that it has Swedish and Danish translations makes me more hopeful, since I can read those. Pity about the lack of an English version though. I will admit, I kinda miss the expressionistic coloring of the 80s/90s, where people suddenly had blue or red faces depending on their mood, and all the clothes were garishly colored. It had a certain uniqueness and heightened mood. This coloring seems more restrained and natural, which IS very pretty, admittedly. The lack of an ending is... well, honestly somewhat predictable even if he had lived longer, to be honest. I remember the Hermetic Garage and the Edena cycle both having either a complete lack of a resolution or one that felt cobbled together to just wrap up the project. With Moebius it's always more about the journey (something that's probably true for many creator-driven projects in comics.) Thanks for this review, I'll be on the lookout for this!

You are welcome, and thanks for the support. If you are looking for the Scandinavian versions they are called 'Övervakaren' (SV) and 'Overseeren' (DK). They sometimes crop up at local online auction sites (like Tradera or DBE if you are familiar with those). Regarding the colouring I am also a sucker for the old school approach but I must say that the colouring in this volume was very tasteful and stayed away from the hyper-glossy look that some of his early 2000's work had (as for example 'After the Incal - the new dream'). About the ending 'Airtight Garage' was supposed to be improvised and he never started the story knowing where it would and that is the beauty of it. With Edena though it did eventually end. If you haven't yet you should check out the complete Edena cycle (single volume) by Dark Horse. Beautiful book.

@@moebius-chronicles You're right, Edena did end, but it just seemed to me that the ending involving waking up from a dream and hearing a voice calling out to him and so on was rushed to attempt to give some sort of resolution. You're absolutely right about the 2000s coloring, this is a lot more... well, stylish, I suppose. From the pages you show in this review, it looks almost like watercolor - which is high praise!

my friend thank you so much for making these vids! was this the final thing Moebius worked on or would that be the ending parts of Inside Moebius? Would be curious to see a video on 'The 2001 apres Jesus Christ' book he illustrated. Just received the Doctor Moebius interview book by Numa Sadoul in the mail, very excited to read over that. keep up the great work and sharing great insights.

Glad you are enjoying the videos and thanks for the support! Regarding the question, the last volume of ‘Inside Moebius’ (Tome 6) came out in French the same year as ‘the surveyor’ but given that Inside Moebius was by then concluded and the new Arzak trilogy was not I consider this to be his last work. I don’t own a copy yet of Apres Jesus but I’m working on it so likely that it will be featured sooner or later. And yes, also got my copy of the interviews this week. What an excellent book, tons of great information there.
