"Oh you look like someone that would know where a dollar store is" , "you're the help" two sentences that will never die in my head i worked in a high end grocery store .

I'd love to be asked the dollar store question because I could go, "Well yeah, it's literally two stores down. I grab carts. Of course I'd know where it is? I see it every shift?" and just turn up the awkwardness

Had a similar thing on Xmas Eve, woman came in just before close asking where the toys were, walked her down and warned her there isn’t much left in the way off good products, she then had a fit with the till staff about the lack of “quality toys”

As an ex-retail worker (thank God), I always remembered one thing. Poor planning on a customer's part doesn't constitute an emergency on yours.

I've had some insanely entitled people, including one woman who i caught trying to walk out with product who proceed to make a scene, but this was by far my favorite interaction with a customer. A woman was holding up some plaid fuzzy socks and asks me "excuse me, are these for men or for women?" I looked down at the socks, back up at her, and with the most plain expression I could muster I responded "they're for people with feet..." We both had a good laugh about it afterwards haha.

An older man cane through my register one night to get a voltage tester. We literally went through the entire transaction (card in the card reader, receipt printed) before he realized that the item cost double than what he thought it did. He thought it cost $20, and when i scanned the item to make sure there wasnt a mistake, and told him that it was ringing up correctly, he told me that there was no way it could have been $40 because hed seen other $40 ones and they had way more attachments and stuff. Then he went and grabbed the entire hook where he had gotten the tester from, with a sticker that said $20. I put in the item number, and lo and behold, no match. I tell him that since the item numbers didnt match, it was supposed to be $40, and if he wanted to return the teeter hed just bought he could go to the customer service desk. He looked me dead in my face and said "but i didnt buy it yet". I has to look a man old enough to be my grandfather in the eyes and tell him that he did in fact buy it, because thats how the receipt got printed.

Someone I ID'ed for alcohol had a driver's license that was two different licenses that had been cut in hand and taped together with Scotch tape to make a fake ID. I looked at the guy and said, "If you paid more than one dollar for this, YOU were the one that got robbed."

Dad was buying cigs, beer and water. Two kids with this dad and when they grabbed a cookie that we made fresh in house daily for a dollar he yelled at them for a minute all allotting to no you can’t. I comped them and told them they could if that was okay with their dad, it wasn’t. So he goes to pay for his stuff with his food stamp card. They can have both cash and stamps on the card. I refused sale of everything to the dad and gave the kids two fresh cookies. I got fired and with a god damn smile on my face.

Wasn't the cashier, but was in line at that checkout, a woman had a FULL cart, like FULL WITH TOP, she put everything on the belt and while it got scanned she found out she had forgotten her wallet, she then just left and walked out the store, leaving the mountain of wares on the belt, not even a word, just walked out, went to her car and drove away, leaving the poor cashier with the 100+ items.

When a customer with over $250 in groceries decides that she will managed every damn item that I pack for her, insisting on everything being exactly how she likes it. I tried being understanding, but everyone I spoke to about her said the same thing: She treats everyone like the help, as in, she saw lower class people who work so damn hard as if they’re her servants. She also demanded that I help her carry out her massive orders of groceries, pack them into her car in a very specific way, and never gave any thanks to me or even my boss for our help. We had so many great customers, it was actually very worth it since that one customer hardly ever came into our store. Plenty of kind folks with caring attitudes… I will always be grateful for that even though I don’t work there anymore.

Oh lord. My first regular job. Working for a florist. The amount if demands for the perfect boquet, arrangement, corsage. The crap on the floor from atripping roses, clipping wires, shaking dirt off, etc. No one would want that crap!
