After finishing the stocking of the maple teacup mini bonsai that I made last year, even after a year, the teacup has grown sufficiently and the appearance has changed considerably as I manage it on a daily basis. It has become a pot that I can look forward to growing year by year.

I gathered 20 Japanese maple sprouts last fall and put them in small pots. They all lived! Now they are getting first leaves before any other trees I have planted.

I found three sprouting out of the ground last year I noticed one died so I dug up the other to put them in pots and they're doing just fine. We had a terrible storm of the beginning of the year and one of my neighbors Himalayan cedar trees fell down so I gathered some of the cones and I've got about 40 sprouts or more. I'm really excited.

can you give any tips on where i can find free maple sprout? I don;t have any maple tree at home. Thanks.
@jonathanryals9934
@jonathanryals9934 Жыл бұрын
@Yuyu Ng well, find an older local gardener that has maple trees established. Offer to do some weeding, maybe they will let you gather some volunteer seedlings. Look near the nice maple like you want, nearby there should be a few baby trees. You might get lucky and find many. Some places you may not need permission but check local laws. But some places the trees are not wanted it is usually easy to get permission.

@@jonathanryals9934 thanks, I may have missed the timing but this time in Australia i can only find fruit fallen in the ground and not on tree anymore. i picked some but do i crack the outer shell open or or? it is very hard shell, could it sprout if i cover with wet paper towel or leave it directly in soil?
@jonathanryals9934
@jonathanryals9934 Жыл бұрын
@Yuyu Ng well, I am not sure about specific plants, but there is a trick of using sandpaper to help the seed sprout. Look into getting a "seedling heat mat", they are pretty cheap and are a good way to really make seeds want to sprout. But with the sandpaper, I think just a little on the end where the sprout comes out is one way to try. Some seeds you can snip a bit off with fingernail clippers, for example my big gourd seeds or like a pumpkin seed maybe.
