I saw this movie when I was 12 around the first week it was released on VHS at Blockbuster and found it a very quirky and light romantic comedy but nearly 25 years later to be a single man struggling with anxious OCD traits and post-pandemic social alienation it's just... heart breakingly inspiring

I don't know what it is. But whenever this movie ends and fades to black, it always makes me feel kind of sad. It's almost as if it is a reminder that none of it is real and these wonderful characters aren't real. I always want to find a way to turn the light back on and continue being with them in their world. Very few movies give me that type of feeling. There's a special magic to this movie. It's a beautiful blend of likeable but flawed characters, uplifting soundtrack and the romanticized New York setting. The whole movie even has a bright "sunshiny" color palate if that makes sense. And it flows almost like a great play. So great.

Me: I feel sorry for the guy in the drive through, the girl at the check out, and even the cop who gave her a ticket for rushing to pick up her nephews at school because their Mom was rushed to hospital. I feel sorry for them because they just met the most caring selfless loving person on this earth, and they will never know it. And I’m so happy because I do, and now she is my wife.

She was reluctant to hear all the nice things he had to say about her until he mentioned her son. Letting her know what an amazing mom she is. Her whole face changed. I think even with as hard as she works and everything she does for her son, she often questions to herself am I a good mother? (which I think most moms do) So when she heard him say "how amazing you are with spence" her whole demeanor changed. She felt fully seen. ❤

This is a movie about dealing with a person who is suffering from OCD, Asperger's, or is on the Autism Spectrum. And I can tell you, it aint easy. And sorry to say...It can get better if you pick better. That's an ugly thing to suggest, but to be saddled with someone who suffers, be it any of the formentioned, or alcoholism, or drug addiction, or anything sexually you are not into, leads to disaster and heartbreak for both people. If I were Helen, I'd take the compliment but refuse the kiss and move on.
