Was chatting to Neil today, not done anything over 32/33 miles ride since accident. Had a good ride today, first 20 miles pushed myself somewhat… for me😉 But would like to get some 50’s in sometime soon. Weather is gorgeous, pity it’s getting worse in the week🤦♂️ get the other water bottle sorted and take care Mr D😊👍

Hi James. Well, seems like the weather has broken. I think lots of regular 50’s are what I was missing. Hoping to do a century on Friday of the weather is OK. Have a good week.

I was out this morning and found a tap at Thursby church - St Martins. One to bear in mind 👌

Thanks for that information Barry. I do know in the past I have found a tap in the cemetery at Grasmere. Just off the A591. And also one in the cemetery near Maryport golf course. That tap was just to the left of the gates as you go in. Think it was behind a bush.

Hi Duncan.. I dropped you a message on another of your posts regarding the Fred Whitton.. well, I didn't get to the first time check ! cut off was 11:30am and whilst I'd like to say it was something or someone else's fault - it wasn't, I'm just not fit enough to do it. It was BRUTAL, BRUTAL, BRUTAL - I did take some positives from the ride and what blew me away was the shear speed that the majority of cyclists where achieving. I was the overtaken and not the overtakee 🙂----- up Honister, woman, men where just (seemingly) flying up and I have the opinion that Honister is as difficult as Hardknott, if even a bit more difficult.. So, once I'd had my number taken off my bike, I had the what seemed a long ride of shame back to Grasmere - through Keswick and up that blooming steep hill that takes one back to Grasmere. I'd like to say it's inspired me to train hard, employ a cycle coach in readiness for next year but the harsh reality is, I'll never look to do that Challenge ever again - Mentally scared. I will though at some point look to just cycle up these climbs without having to get off and push and I will undertake shorter sportives that include them - like the Lakeland Loop that I did a few weeks prior to the Fred Whitton. It has though, brought me to yourself Duncan and your videos, which I love and if you ever decide to cycle up in the Silloth area of Cumbria then please give me a shout, I'd be delighted to share a cycle ride with you..

hey, dont be so hard on yourself. it is tough it was hot and the ride you did is no easy feat. I think Honnister descent is worse than hardknott and going up it does have its own stings. keep positve and ride at your pace as your bodytells you.

Hi Ian, As PW has commented below, don't be too hard on yourself. The Fred is a very very tough sportive! It is like no there century ride sportive I know of. It is all very well and good to ride 112 miles and that elevation, but it is also the steepness of the climbs and ascents together with the road surfaces which are something else. Personally, I love it. What time did you get to set off? I do cycle towards Silloth now and then (not as much as I used too mind). I am considering organising a group social ride up in this neck of the woods before the winter, so keep posted. Thanks Ian.

Hiya, looked for you on the bridge at Rydal but not see you, thanks if you were out there marshalling along with others, Was too hot for me :-( did to Gosforth in good time and felt much better but was no quicker than last year some how? I think it was a winter of turbo that made me fitter but not the real life outdoor conditions of last years outside training rides.

Well done for doing it! It was hot apparently....I was in the shade so didn't notice how hot it was. I wasn't on the bridge at Rydal, I was at the cattle bridge at the back of Miller Bridge Park. On the same road, just before. Depends what time you went through, there were 4 of us there but sometimes just me or 2. Need a cow bell for next time....had sore hands for clapping from 11:47 or so until 5:50pm.........

I have ordered a new bag. That old one was getting rather tatty. And the Velcro strap round the seafoods was worn.
