[Synopsis]

Good for Haolan to choose keeping her dignity and stay true to herself and her own values despite the fact that the husband and his mother wanted to humiliate her accusing her unjustly. The dowager says she can be this fearless because he favors her. No. She was always that fearless that’s why he loved and hated her. He promised her he’d never marry another woman while she went through hell and back only to find he had a fckn menagerie when they finally reunited. This guy really was the worst. Neither of the men she loved ever fully loved her more that wealth or power. This was a hard drama to swallow but the acting in it is phenomenal.

This scene makes me so angry. She gave up so much for him and saved him countless of times and was willing to die for him back in Zhao State when the citizens wanted to kill him. She bore him a son on the battlefield, and she stayed behind for 7 or 8 years with her son while they went through endless peril so he could escape to his home country and be safe. The first time she comes to Qing the Empress Dowager tries to divert her and make her stuck at some other place and try to take her sick son to a sick ward, and then tried to make her be fine with the title of just concubine zhao. And then on top of this she has to deal with the fact her husband married countless women and had children with the despicable Siluo (which yes I know he had to because he needed to show he was obedient to save haolan). And the emperor's mom empress dowager is constantly making her life hard and being so mean to her. Just in this scene she says HaoLan is not fair- no her husband is being the unfair one. He talks about how he treats her so well, has so much adoration for her, and that she is throwing it away- and when she finally gets sick of it she says she doesn't want to be Empress because that isn't even important to her- and then he roughly grabs her and says she has to???? SPOILER DO NOT READ IF U DONT WANT SPOILERS: Not to mention when he got mad at her with Lyu Buwei? Or when he hugged siluo when he knew Haolan was listening and refused to see her when he died just because he could make her remember him forever over Lyu Buwei. All I can say is- what a horrible, narcissistic, prideful, egoistic, manipulative guy to go on to say that he loves his wife so much. It makes me sick and want to throw up to see what HaoLan goes through. He constantly talks about hating her willfulness- yet he forgets about all of her good attributes and what she has done for him. True love is about accepting someone fully - flaws and all. While I know that this is a Chinese Drama and it is dramatized- I just wanted to say my opinion because seeing the treatment of HaoLan was so sad for me. Sadly, these women probably had even less freedom then seen in these Chinese Dramas. I am glad women are treated better in modern times.

I loved this scene because it parallels with the Queen of Zhao when she did the exact same thing and committed suicide/tried to murder the king. Haolan truly learned a lot from her.
