As many as 100 firefighters continue to extinguish flames on 'iconic' Oceanside Pier | 10 p.m. updat

As of 9:30 p.m., Oceanside Fire officials say the fire is contained to the end of the pier. Fire fighters removed some of the pier planks to prevent the burn from spreading further down the pier.
Fire fighters will continue to combat the fire throughout the night.
A water contact closure has been issued for Oceanside Pier due to contamination from the fire, San Diego County officials announced. The closure spans from the beachline north of the pier to Surfrider Way and south of the pier to Tyson Street.
Officials say the water can be contaminated with debris and other potential contaminants.

I've seen this pier on Drone 5 Sky Flight at 4am either Saturday or Sunday and I was shocked when I saw this. They say it is the longest pier in the West coast.

They keep claiming that several departments were there. 🤷🏻‍♀️ However, all those “departments” were unable to do anything. Even the boats could only assist a little. The 1st helicopter came about 50 mins after the start. So sad 😢 They were definitely not prepared for such a situation which makes the response very disappointing. Imagine if it was summer, full of tourists?! I live by the pier and saw it :(

Esther Sanchez 🤥 sez crews from nearby towns are rotating through for smoke hazard while minding the rest of O'side. Obviously the fire is stubborn decades of restaurant grease about even if the restaurants were fastidious . Just was at the Brine Box and eyeing their bread pudding the other day. shucks, missed it. Yes Esther the pier needs reopened after repair for our summer season. Wondering about insurance fraud on this one.
