I'm a Midwesterner who lives in Florida. After seeing the horror of the hurricanes in Florida this last year I was left shocked and devastated. My heart really goes out to those in California who are dealing with this major disaster. We all must analyze why this happened, come up with REAL solutions, and do what is needed to prevent these kinds of disasters from happening in a non-dystopian method. I don't know if much can be done about wildfires. They're nearly impossible to prevent and not much, if any easier to contain. Best solution would seem to be not living in or near areas prone to such natural disasters in the first place. I'm also in the Midwest and am glad that we don't have the kind of dry climate that produces fires on this scale. Also glad not to be subject to hurricanes, earthquakes or volcanic eruptions. Some parts of the world are just safer.

What's really sad is when you look at the federal and state responses to the Lahaina fire and the floods of Northern Georgia, these residence and business owners will take decades to recover. It has been 6 years since the Camp fire. How much progress has been made to rebuild Paradise?

I survived the Camp Fire, which destroyed nearly all of the affordable housing in Butte County, including the rental I lived in. None of that housing is getting rebuilt, only luxury homes for the wealthy. The same thing is happening in Lahaina. Since most of the destruction here is already housing for elites, it will be quickly rebuilt like it was before, which is what happened after the 2017 fire in Santa Rosa.

Actually Kerry, most of understand city water systems were not designed for urban wildfires fires. We also understand if you open multiple hydrants on the same system at the same times water pressure will drop and some hydrants maybe empty. Maybe most of us understand that 3 million gallon water tanks were depleted in the first 8 hrs. Please try to do better

WRONG. Water systems should be designed to suppress fires. The pressure issue is mitigated by water towers. There were not enough towers, reservoirs, and firemen to at least contain the fire. This is due to poor planning and other interests taking priority over fire preparedness.

Looks beautiful to me. Not for the loss or anything but to see nature return. Fire is a natural event. These beaches were so hard to use because of the homeowners and city fighting everyday people who had a right to visit. It has been going on for years and now they really need these everyday people to come and put out the fire and they can't. There's not enough firefighters.

America has several cities in places that make them disasters waiting to happen. New Orleans is the prime example. My understanding in order to balance the budget she had to cut 2% from each of the city managed departments. To zzzz, I don't understand your anger and zeal to "press charges" against people who put themselves out there to be elected. How exactly did she break any laws and bless you if you think you could have done a better job.
