Tip: Most of the things you copy from TheIsland can also be cached in Notepad. Then you don't always have to switch back and forth

After adding blueprints make sure that in the Details section for each you uncheck "Is Spatially Loaded". Its probably mentioned in the video, but I missed it and it caused a lot of headaches. 😬 Additional: In order to do the step that starts at about 16:21 you need to find SEQ_Island (level sequence) in the content folder and drag it to the scene. Make sure the file winds up in the UDS folder to avoid a saving issue. Once you done that then you can proceed with the sequence editing instruction.

Totally stumped here. First shot with the Devkit, and I got as far as putting UDS_Island and wqeather in the viewport, then there was a bit about not forgetting to copy the detail settings. Which settings...to where? There are lots of bits like this, which seem to be informative if you know what you are doing, but if you don;t, they are baffling and problematic. You also do not have a standard 'default' layout for the tabs you are working on, but 720p res isn't clear enough for me to read what you have. That slows down following the steps. I think this is a great tutorial, probably, but it is really hard to follow for someone not familiar with the stuff already. There also appear to be some differences with the files I am seeing in my Devkit with what you had. I don;t know if these are new things or if they even matter. Can you recommend anywhere to start that will let me learn the interface better and fill in the gaps so I can follow this?

You can try the UE5 documentation/tutorials. I've found this both helpful and a hinderance. The hinderance is that the ASA Devkit was only based on the UE5 devkit and has many differences in both layout and naming. The more I learn about mapping, the more respect I have for Mappers and people attempting to create tutorials.

You need to have TheIsland open in another Devkit. Once you have copied the two items to the view port open them in the devkit with your map and in the devkit with TheIsland open. If there are any differences under the Details tab, copy the settings from TheIsland. I didn't find any, but its worth the time needed to check...just in case.😊

Hello, thanks for the video - a some feedback/questions - Its really hard to follow with the fake voice that goes so fast and sometimes you leave out steps that new DevKit users don't know how to get to. The current version does not allow you to open two dev kits and then you refer to replicating or copying the island map to your details - very confusing and stuck at this point.

You can open 2 dev kits. Just go to the folder where its installed and open "RunEditorSDK.bat"

I am stuck at 6:40 the obelisk zone managers aren't able to be copied I even loaded all regions of the island. I hope I have the proper Island opened hmm.. makes no sense please help.

Some blueprints cannot be copied from map to map. The Obelisk Zone Manager are not important. I don't even know why i copied them they are empty. They are just NPC manager but they are not even used so.. xD

Their located in the DinoSpawns data later, which is nested under Persistent. You have to load it yourself, it doesn't load automatically when you activate the persistent dataLayer (at least it didn't for me.)

I hit a problem which stopped further progression in this tutorial, when I tried to copy/paste IslandCeilingBounds and IslandWallBounds into the scene nothing happened. I was able to copy/paste everything else in that section of the tutorial, but nothing happened when I tried to copy/paste those two items. I noted that (unlike everything else) both items had no details. Any ideas as to why the items couldn't be copy/pasted between the two Devkits? This tutorial was helpful in many ways, but I'm headed back to the UE5 doc/tutorials and learn more of the basics. Maybe then it'll be easier follow this tutorial.

You need to load the "Persistent" dataLayer. Go to the toolbar on the top of the window, select Window>World Partition>Data Layers Outliner. Click the checkbox next to Persistent. While your there check dinoSpawns, which is nested under Persistent. You will need that later.

@@jmr2008jan Thank you for the reply, sorry was working on UE5 tutorials and just now got back to this one. After following your instructions all I can find is islandceiling and islandwall blockers, no bounds. Are the blockers the ones I need to copy? Crossed my fingers and went with that approach, just need to know if that was correct or not. 🤔

Okay, thought I had finished the tutorial. But, when I was grouping the obelisk files I a possible issue. In the video when BP_Obelisk_A-C were copied from the Content Drawer, each of them had a BP_Obelisk_VFX as a sub-file, this did not happen when I did it. I noticed that these don't exist in TheIsland version which would explain why the copy/paste did not have them. So, leaving that alone unless I find out otherwise.

I created one for myself up to the point of importing the landscape. If you change the name of the files, it doesn't work. So it is not easy to do and give out.

So, my PC will not even open the Island, and there is sooooo much to copy and paste, not to mention you never explained how to actually copy and paste the "details" from the Island. But, are we making our own map, or just recreating the Island?

A lot of the settings need to be carried over for it to work. You can tweak things after you know what you are doing. I think you need around 64 gigs of ram to open theIsland unfortunently. I really wouldn't want to try modding Ark with less anyway, though you could probaly get away with 48. You can make new map from scratch , but it's going to take a lot more work to figure out the correct settings for things. You will also need to recreate the level BP from scratch, which will be a headache./

I cant Open the Island_WP as single to copy all that stuff. I have 32Gb ram. I rode here any other users have the same Problem. If i want to Load only TheIsland_WP i need more ram too. is there a way to do that in a other way ?

I get along fine with 32 gigs of ram, and it rarely hits more than 50% usage. The speed of your processor and the speed of the ram make a big difference though. And, having a fast ssd drive is a big help as well. Just to be clear I can open and use two instances of the ASA Devkit at the same time with 32 GB of ram (The Island_WP open in one and my mod map open in the other).

@@zamirathezenathazami5200 you have to go to the top of the editor, click on windows go to world partition, open data layers and then enable them all, if they still don’t work, pin them or go back to world partition and select the one that shows a map, then drag and select all of the map.

@@WM_Plays Okay got it. For anyone having issues in the future, you can pin the sm_spawningpads to get them to where you can copy. The zonemanagers you have to open the persistent drop down in the data layers and load dino spawns, they won't be loaded just because persistent is loaded.

I can't find an OceanPhysics folder to copy from in TheIsland. In the Global > Ocean folder there is only Dirt_Plane, OceanFog_CylinderInverted_WaterPlane, SM_OceanPlane_Algae and WaterPlane. I checked DataLayers and Ocean is checked. What am I missing? Or do I need to reinstall devkit? Edit: just updated devkit, still no OceanPhysics folder. Edit: I did find three Bp_WaterPhysics_ASA at the main folder level which were linked to the Persistant datalayer, but not sure what those are for. I see that one other person has this issue, any help would be greatly appreciated.

I also have this issue. Going to skip this step for now, maybe just put my own ocean physics in there(not even sure why there are so many physicsobjects for the ocean on the island since you only need one I think to make it work).

@@marvinblubaugh-si4hb In that case its cool. I just made the ocean from scratch instead. I skipped everything in this video and will create what I need from scratch with the help of some tutorials and old plain experimentation.

I cant find the ocean physics... the ocean data layer is loaded. is it located somewhere else? And how can I open a second DevKit?

@@chrisparadoxon4572 No worries, there is definitely a ton to learn. I had to take a step back for a while and go through UE5 tutorials/docs which gave a better foundation for ASA tutorials. Struggling with those still, but making tiny steps forward.

Did any of you find it eventually? I am also looking for oceanphysics but have almost loaded every data layer now without any success. A second devkit is opened by selecting the runeditorsdk in the arkdevkit folder.

Hey ButtMan, what is the exact method of copying between 2 dev kits? Is it click and drag, ctrl v and crtl c or while im in the island dev kit im dragging the specific files into my new mods folder. Im really confused at this point.

In your SDK install directory there's a bat file called "RunEditorSDK." Clicking that will allow you to open new SDK instances. Note that you will be copying two different categories of things here, one are objects already present in the world in theIsland map, where you can control C from the overview window and then control V into your own. The other are assets that live in your mods plugin, such as the datalayers. Those you can click from theIslands dataLayers folder in the content browser and drag into your own plugin folder (inside of a new folder titled DataLayers.) When you do this you'll get a little window that asks if you want to "copy, move, or migrate" choose "Move." Those you don't copy from a different instance of the editor, just drag from the content browser. You only need a different instance when copying things that are in the game world already. It's also useful for checking settings.

@@Jotakyy Just open TheIsland_WP... do not load everything. Most things are in DataLayers "Tools and Ocean" a few things like the obelisk stuff are in VFX, Far and Near but for that, only load the regions where the obelisks are on the map.

How fast is your ram? I only have 32GB and have no issues opening that map. Also, how much storage do you have on your machine and how fast is the drive? Currently the Dev kit uses over 600 GB of space, so you may be running out of swap space.
