That's one of the Frenchiest US video clip ever... So many references here: La Haine obviously (the actors, the shouting, the violence, the old guns) but also La Jetée (Chris Marker) when you have images shown one after the other (the way it's filmed too) and by proxy Terrry Gilliam's "Twelve Monkeys" and "Brazil" for the architecture (also shot in France) I feel a hint of Isao Takahata's "Grave of the Fireflies" too, with the butterfliesshining in the darkness, adding to the melancholy but maybe that's just me ^^

The melody at the beginning is from a song called "Despair Came Knocking" by a schizophrenic outsider artist called Daniel Johnston. He produced an album in 1983 but his schizophrenia became overwhelming and he was no longer able to finish the album. The unfinished album, "Hi How Are You", was published. The sound is whimsical and childlike but also deeply haunting.

The visuals and the "setting" are actually inspired by the french film La Haine (The Hate) by Matthieu Kassovitz, and the character of Said in this music video (played by Said Taghmaoui) is also present in La Haine, but instead of being a big mob boss (like in this music video) he's just a young funny wannabe thug who does some bad shit in his city.

Ahhh. You just are not connecting things. To me? Modern rap is still the same shit. Beats are lil diff, and fashion is better. Flow? It's like it always was. All rappers are lil diff, same styles? It always been here. Like, I don't really understand old heads, even when im one of them. Message? Like what? We should be like pop? Or rock? Talk bout same fake emotions, and the same fake other shit? Hell no. I rather listen to music bout real things. Money, bitches, drugs even, party, simple emotions, simple love, simple creativity. That's the hip hop I love. Like, the simplicity make this genre so beautiful and free. We can mix rap with any other genre, and it can sound good. Like, no barriers. R'n'r, pop, metal, they are all genres with barriers, you know.

one of the best music videos ever made hands down
@luvJNSKNS1238 жыл бұрын
EXPLANATION: Flacko and the money man are cool in the beginning, making money together and agreeing, selling people life and freedom from themselves. But while theyre doing this people are being trapped into the appearance of their life style. The money, being top dog, king of the hood yeah? The one thing they start having in common is love for the girl. Since shes the money mans sister and flackos lover. She represents love and humanity in my opinion. The only thing really separating them from being trapped like everybody else. Hence how their eyes start flashing from black to normal in the video. Then tensions rise because of the money and the quest to be the top dog. The girl gets caught up in the middle and flacko and the money man lose sight of her (empathy,love and humanity). And one of the people they slowly trapped,(the kid with the black eyes). Sees this as something that is ruining the life that hes always known. The one man that raised him and that he aspired to be like , the money man. With all the chaos the kid shoots flacko and the money mans only hope(the girl). Once shes dead all of their eyes turn black. Because now they have been defeated and consumed by the very thing they trapped others with. The butterfly and scorpion at the end represent the two sides shown in the video. The scorpion represents the poisonous attitudes and values that are created by the trap life. And the butterfly represents like i said, freedom. The freedom that everyone in that hood desires and tried desparately to get. This is just my personal interpretation. Take it how you want ✌✌😊

Almost 2022 and this is still one of the best music videos ever produced. Rocky's inspiration from movies such as La Haine and Enter The Void and novels such as Animal Farm are such great artistic choices, keep up the good work Rocky. Lots of love

When Rina gets shot, the butterfly dies and gets weak, and the scorpion kills it. Therefore she is the freedom and the butterfly and the scorpion is the trap lifestyle and money and the dark eyes ruining them. It shows the two conflicting ideas
