Asbestos in Vermiculite? The facts.

The state of Montana was aware in the 60’s of the asbestos in the Libby mine to be clear. WR Grace had their employees’ undergo lung X-rays every year or two, saw all the lung abnormalities (especially in their 10+ year employees) and didn’t tell any of them.

Everything is COOL, until 30 -40 years down the line when tradesmen are dying early.

I'm refreshing my understanding of this subject after seeing an advertisement about the lawsuits against Talc producers, which was apparently being sold with Asbestos contamination. Unfortunately we can't necessarily trust the manufacturer to have our health & safety as a priority. I think vermiculite is probably safe, but I'm still going to act like it might be contaminated. Like you said, I'm going to treat unfamiliar dust like it's hazardous to my health.

It was so crumbly like you said and it went in my eyes by accident. Stopped touching the ceiling when that happened

I do demolition work in Brisbane and yes there's a risk, schools hospitals and government buildings + ANYTHING built before 1990-1991 can and possibly does have asbestos.
