Hello Father, I realize this is a year of rest. However, I want to give thanks to God for my good health; I am approaching the point of being 5 years cancer free. Also, a good number of improvements on my home have been neglected and I need to work on them now that my health is better. Any gently used and still useful items need to be donated, trash items need to be tossed, and keepable items need to be organized. All this should be done before I am no longer here, so my daughter and son-in-law don't have to do it. I know my donations will be good for those in need and I want to help them. Yes! I’m in a similar position and have finally recovered from a brutal trial in 2023. I am ready to go and use the gifts God gave me and not waste one more minute. But what I will do is be very intentional about resting in Him and entrusting my life and the success of my plans to God. This is a big learning for me. I love the words of Mother Theresa: God did not call me to be successful, He called me to be faithful. St: Augustin: Work as though all depended on you, pray as though all depended on God. St Benedict: Ora et Labora. To be able to resist sloth without falling into self reliance is how I will choose to honor the Lord and the call of the Holy Father to rest.

God invited me to the jubilee on July 10, 2024. I cried so badly and I read the scripture over and over to see if he was really talking to me then after a while he took me to the curses of if I didn’t obey. A Church with a preferential option for the poor is inviting people to make a pilgrimage to Rome, but no word yet as to how the poor are to do that. I hope those with the money for international travel enjoy their time in Rome, and I'd love to join them but, as someone living in voluntary simplicity in order to give of my substance to the poor, that's just not possible unless I reduce my efforts on behalf of the poor... but I will not do that for it is in the face of the poor that we meet Jesus! As Mother Teresa of Calcutta said, " We need the eyes of deep faith to see Christ in the broken body and dirty clothes under which the most beautiful one among us hides. We shall need the hands of Christ to touch these bodies wounded by pain and suffering." I guess this is the difference between our faith as practiced by those of means and those in authority, and the faith as practiced by those in rags whom Christ came to serve...
