When our youngest son was about 6 years old, he asked me this; “Mom, should we be mad at Adam and Eve?” I thought that was a profound thought for a 6 year old! Unfortunately, our son passed away unexpectedly 4 months ago, at the age of 30. Gosh, if he were here today, I would share this video with him. Thank you, Fr. Mike for your videos. You done more for me than you’ll ever know. And, get well soon! God Bless 🙏🏻🙏🏻

@@estelita1111 so god chose to give us this “problem” of free will and punishes us when it goes wrong which, by the sounds of it, was an inevitable consequence… meaning the omniscient deity must have known as much. Punishing us for the problem he knowingly and willingly gave us, in other words. This is just one of a number of problems with the story of original sin and why the free will defence makes it worse.

@@damienschwass9354You do present a tough question. Why would God create us, knowing that we would fall to original sin? Although it’s challenging, and potentially impossible, to give a concrete answer as this would require divine intervention, God is omniscient and thus has planned out his purpose for this human situation. You ignore the lamb of God, Jesus Christ, who took away the sins from Adam and Eve. Reading Scripture carefully, we are led to the following conclusions: 1. The fall of mankind was foreknown by God. 2. The crucifixion of Christ, the atonement for God’s elect, was foreordained by God. 3. All people will one day glorify God (Psalm 86:9), and God purposes “to bring unity to all things in heaven and on earth under Christ” (Ephesians 1:10). The point I’m trying to make is that God his has own timeline, and we cannot nor should not try to plan or decipher God’s intentions for this as it is a waste of time and hubris to think we can.

Even though you became sick, I am sure it was so worth it to get to spend some quality time with your family! Life is not fair in many ways, but you've taught me that as long as we accept God's grace and mercy and receive reconciliation, our sins do not matter. If we love and choose Him, we will get to spend eternity in heaven with Him. God has made it so worth it! Thanks, Father Mike.

Father - As a born and raised Roman Catholic, I have spent a great deal of time thinking about the whole concept of Original Sin. And after many years of contemplation I have actually come to the conclusion that Original Sin is actually, like everything else from Our Father in Heaven, a great gift that we almost couldn't live without! If one doesn't have a profound sense of one's own deeply flawed nature, there's virtually no logical incentive to do anything to improve oneself and the environment in which we live.
@meganbrennan454
@meganbrennan454 8 ай бұрын
I think of Original Sin like an inherited genetic mutation. It predisposes you to sickness, but ultimately how you choose to live determines if you get it. Just because we have the sickness from our parents Adam and Eve doesn’t mean we have to choose to worsen it through sin, but we do that on our own.

This is such a screwed up doctrine. First, substitutional sacrifice is a disgusting idea. “I killed that guy because of something you did” does not fly in any context. Second, testing whether you believe sincerely enough under threat of punishment is immoral. “Nope, sorry, you had 1% doubt so you don’t get the prize!” Then put that in the context of an all-knowing God who already knew who would be damned before you were born, and the whole thing is an evil charade.

Cathecism of the Catholic Church (CCC) 412: "But why did God not prevent the first man from sinning? St. Leo the Great responds, “Christ’s inexpressible grace gave us blessings better than those the demon’s envy had taken away.”* And St. Thomas Aquinas wrote, “There is nothing to prevent human nature’s being raised up to something greater, even after sin; God permits evil in order to draw forth some greater good. Thus St. Paul says, ‘Where sin increased, grace abounded all the more’; and the Exsultet sings, ‘O happy fault that earned so great, so glorious a Redeemer!'" But also CCC 314: "We firmly believe that God is master of the world and of its history. But the ways of his providence are often unknown to us. Only at the end, when our partial knowledge ceases, when we see God “face to face,”* will we fully know the ways by which-even through the dramas of evil and sin-God has guided his creation to that definitive sabbath rest* for which he created heaven and earth." TL;DR: God gives us a goodness infinitely better than the fall, by redeeming us through Jesus Christ. However, ultimately, we can only be given the best answer during our judgment after our live ends.

Some questions: If Adam and Eve were not yet fallen, how were they able to sin? Without having yet fallen, why would they desire to disobey God? If they were tricked, then how were they culpable? Why does God allow original sin (or “original wound” as you call it) to be passed down? Why not just judge each person on a clean slate?

Forgive me Father Mike for being a doubter and a sinner, but I haven't been able to truly confess because I hold some grudges in my heart, but I also hold several blessings as well, and I just don't know how to let go of the grudges/burdens (mostly because of my own mistakes and I don't want to trouble our Lord and Savior) and the blessings of being raised by a good family, country, and doing my best to serve both despite being disabled. And now to see the world going into a state of absolute idiocy, what can I do to help save the people of our world is a question I continously ask myself, and I have no answer.

So here's a question for you Christians here: If it turns out that one of your ancestors, that you never met, committed a crime, and it was heinous enough to warrant life in prison or even the death penalty, are YOU willing to be jailed and/or killed for something that your ancestor supposedly did? I seriously doubt that any of you would.

Yep. yet they make excuses for god who deliberately designed this unfair unjust setup for no good reason lol.

I'm watching the video on my TV, but I just wanted to suggest something to you Fr. Mike, take a spoonful of honey. It'll coat your throat so you're not hacking up mucous so much or coughing as much. Also if you have a cold, lots of chicken noodle soup. Dr. Mom's advice (I say the same thing to my own son)

You still didn't explain how it was fair for us to be burdened by the sins of our ancestors. Comparing it to a sickness, God could've cured the sickness at the beginning but he let it fester. Why should I believe that God will fix the problem of sin when he was the one who allowed it to perpetuate?

Well put. They have no good answer. Its obviously an idiotic design on the part of god. As a kid i realized how unjust and stupid it was.

So no, it would be abjectly unfair for an omnipotent being to deal with things in that fashion. Thanks for clarifying.

One question: I'd buy that we are made good but broken and therefore have desires we don't want (if we deep inside want to do good) as you say. However, what drove Adam and Eve to sin in the first place then? It could not have been brokenness before The Fall. If the answer is "X drove them', then X would also explain our own tendency to sin. In turn, that means, in fact, it's NOT brokenness that makes us fail after all.
