When our youngest son was about 6 years old, he asked me this; “Mom, should we be mad at Adam and Eve?” I thought that was a profound thought for a 6 year old! Unfortunately, our son passed away unexpectedly 4 months ago, at the age of 30. Gosh, if he were here today, I would share this video with him. Thank you, Fr. Mike for your videos. @masscantbecreatedordestroy886810 ай бұрын
@@damienschwass9354You do present a tough question. Why would God create us, knowing that we would fall to original sin? Although it’s challenging, and potentially impossible, to give a concrete answer as this would require divine intervention, God is omniscient and thus has planned out his purpose for this human situation. You ignore the lamb of God, Jesus Christ, who took away the sins from Adam and Eve. Reading Scripture carefully, we are led to the following conclusions: 1. The fall of mankind was foreknown by God. 2. The crucifixion of Christ, the atonement for God’s elect, was foreordained by God. 3. All people will one day glorify God (Psalm 86:9), and God purposes “to bring unity to all things in heaven and on earth under Christ” (Ephesians 1:10). The point I’m trying to make is that God his has own timeline, and we cannot nor should not try to plan or decipher God’s intentions for this as it is a waste of time and hubris to think we can.

Father - As a born and raised Roman Catholic, I have spent a great deal of time thinking about the whole concept of Original Sin. And after many years of contemplation I have actually come to the conclusion that Original Sin is actually, like everything else from Our Father in Heaven, a great gift that we almost couldn't live without! If one doesn't have a profound sense of one's own deeply flawed nature, there's virtually no logical incentive to do anything to improve oneself and the environment in which we live.
@meganbrennan4548 ай бұрын
I think of Original Sin like an inherited genetic mutation. It predisposes you to sickness, but ultimately how you choose to live determines if you get it. Just because we have the sickness from our parents Adam and Eve doesn’t mean we have to choose to worsen it through sin, but we do that on our own.

This is such a screwed up doctrine. First, substitutional sacrifice is a disgusting idea. “I killed that guy because of something you did” does not fly in any context. Second, testing whether you believe sincerely enough under threat of punishment is immoral. “Nope, sorry, you had 1% doubt so you don’t get the prize!” Then put that in the context of an all-knowing God who already knew who would be damned before you were born, and the whole thing is an evil charade.

Cathecism of the Catholic Church (CCC) 412: "But why did God not prevent the first man from sinning? St. Leo the Great responds, “Christ’s inexpressible grace gave us blessings better than those the demon’s envy had taken away.”* And St. Thomas Aquinas wrote, “There is nothing to prevent human nature’s being raised up to something greater, even after sin; God permits evil in order to draw forth some greater good. Thus St. Paul says, ‘Where sin increased, grace abounded all the more’; and the Exsultet sings, ‘O happy fault that earned so great, so glorious a Redeemer!'" But also CCC 314: "We firmly believe that God is master of the world and of its history. But the ways of his providence are often unknown to us. Only at the end, when our partial knowledge ceases, when we see God “face to face,”* will we fully know the ways by which-even through the dramas of evil and sin-God has guided his creation to that definitive sabbath rest* for which he created heaven and earth." TL;DR: God gives us a goodness infinitely better than the fall, by redeeming us through Jesus Christ. However, ultimately, we can only be given the best answer during our judgment after our live ends.

Why does God allow original sin (or “original wound” as you call it) to be passed down? Why not just judge each person on a clean slate?

Forgive me Father Mike for being a doubter and a sinner, but I haven't been able to truly confess because I hold some grudges in my heart, but I also hold several blessings as well, and I just don't know how to let go of the grudges/burdens (mostly because of my own mistakes and I don't want to trouble our Lord and Savior) and the blessings of being raised by a good family, country, and doing my best to serve both despite being disabled. And now to see the world going into a state of absolute idiocy, what can I do to help save the people of our world is a question I continously ask myself, and I have no answer.

One question: I'd buy that we are made good but broken and therefore have desires we don't want (if we deep inside want to do good) as you say. However, what drove Adam and Eve to sin in the first place then? It could not have been brokenness before The Fall. If the answer is "X drove them', then X would also explain our own tendency to sin. In turn, that means, in fact, it's NOT brokenness that makes us fail after all.
