I hope that this doesn’t come across as a negative comment but an aircraft wing is not symmetrical the bottom of the wing is flatter than the top of the wing to create a pressure difference which creates lift. Aero space engineers would have more to add about aerodynamics of the rim profile maybe one of them could add their theory on the profile of the rim you have identified. Thank you for the content 👍

Darren, you are correct. An aircraft wing is deliberately asymmetrical to generate lift. That would be bad in our situation. He has correctly identified, though, that the rim increases in width from the tire interface, before tapering down. We optimized the rim profile to reduce the amount of steering moment, and to increase the range of angles the wheel could operate in before stalling. Stalling is also more gradual, as described by Peak Torque, and you get a lot less twitching when hit by a crosswind.

There are aircraft wings that are symmetrical. - usually for acrobatic aircraft that need a strong performance inverted. In the case of bicycle wheels, you want a similar thing - equal handling when the wind is from either side.

I assume a vertical tail fin would be a better comparison, since it's symmetrical. Horizontal stabilizers should be symmetrical too

Hi, exceptional presentations, thank you kindly, I am interested in both the Trifox X10 & Yoeleo R12 which one would you highly recommend for crit racing, which one is stiffer and faster, as I will buy the New Hyper wheelset to go on one of those bikes?
@pierrex32262 жыл бұрын
He can't answer on stiffness and speed, would be too subjective. More objective is price difference. Yoeleo, like winspace, has been upping their marketing game, and their kit is now quite expensive but without any demonstrated technical edge. Assuming trifox costs X and yoeleo 2x, I'd go for the trifox myself. If you don't care about that, yoeleo is more likely to be trouble free (probably better finish, no need to sand down this or that kind of thing).

Oz - were the Polaris wheels tested for noise with an appropriate amount of pre-load? I.e., did that truing stand compress the bearings the way you describe @18:56? Just wondering if that's why they were noisier.
@stevenleffanue2 жыл бұрын
All wheels are tested with no load, the truing stand does not apply any load

EDIT: We have posted a statement on our Instagram and Facebook pages. The original comment has been left here for completeness. Hello Steven, Thank you for taking the time to review the wheels - I'm glad you liked them! You're right, with a rim this deep, you'll definitely feel the side force from crosswinds - can't beat physics. However, what we're doing is to minimize the twitching that is so common with deep section wheels. It's easy to contend with side force, but twitching can be scarier and that's what we're aiming to minimize. The DT240 version is actually 2.9k! I hope you'll continue to enjoy the wheels - please keep riding them! Regards Qing Xiang (QX) Yee Founder Ascent Bikes

Do you plan on offering just the rim without hubs and spokes? I would like to build that up with a different hub and spoke choice . Additionally it would be less expensive and gives me more building options on a quite difficult supply market at the moment.

@@PeterPenisPan80 Good idea! Yeah we could make that happen. Drop us message on the site and I'll let you know when it's ready.
