Reminder that Lahabrea got absorbed into the Nidhogg Eye that Thordan used to power himself up, then Nidhogg used (along with his other eye) to possess Estinien, and then used by Ilberd to summon Shinryu. Safe to say that Lahabrea's pretty much a goner.
@destru12352 жыл бұрын
And to add, though a little late: After we defeat Shinryu in SB, Estinien is shown in the Royal Menagerie garden in Ala Mhigo destroying both Eyes. So if Lahabrea's soul was still in them, he's a goner, or at most is now part of the Source's Aetherial Sea.

There also the part where Elidibus goes "Lahabrea, gone, Emet-selch, gone, I alone remain" (or something similar). I guess the only question is if Lahabrea's "soul" joined the dead in the aetherial sea or was completely snuffed out🤔. This is also something I'm thinking about regarding Emet's death, will he be reborn unsundered as he died unsundered, would that make him into some kind of super prodigy in his next life as well then?🤔😂

@jemm113 Жыл бұрын
SPOILERS FOR THE PANDAEMONIUM RAID SERIES! Nope. Confirmation from the last raid quest shows that both of the other Unsundered souls survived! Seems that souls being drained of Aether isn’t their actual demise unless outright ripped apart. We see this from when the shade of Lahabrea’s memories dissipates, we see a glint in the Aetherial Sea, suggesting that the memories reached his soul. As for Elidibus, the English and other languages confirm that his soul is *the real deal* and it explains why he has all of his memories from the WoL’s timeline, and not just the events leading up to and including Pandaemonium in the unsundered past. This also makes sense when you consider that souls are a rather elusive subject even in FFXIV’s own universe, they cannot simply be created at will, even the users of creation magicks admit that beings have to spontaneously gain a soul upon creation/birth. This also goes to imply that all of the previous lesser Ascian deaths didn’t destroy their souls, and the main grievance for the organization would be that finding the reborn souls was a difficult and time wasting process, hence the decision to pluck a soul from a reflection to raise as one instead.

My take on the future of the ascians is totally speculative, but I kinda have a hunch that the team will want a fresh start and open up a new chapter. We might not see the story of the ascians continue, at least not in the large scale, because they might want to make room for something new. And if they are featured, they might be used to explore what it is like when your whole purpose is taken away from you. Do you cling onto the past conflict or are you able to move on and find a new purpose? And what will that purpose be? Of course it is not easy to make predictions purely in a chronological sense, since we have no idea whether we're even continuing the story from where the Endwalker ended. We might be sent to another shard or suddenly explore another era - whether it'll be past or even future. But in any case, a really brilliant video that gave a much clearer picture of the group as a whole. Keep up the good work!

Yeah, my immediate thought was that when we meet them, we'll see them in different stages, deniability or acceptance. I can see a group of them will play a role as villains trying to still do the rejoining, return Zodiark or even try to seek out and revive the lost ones from Zodiark or even Emet and Lahabrea. But they wont be the main story segment, at best they'll be like Zenos in Endwalker, a starting threat but ultimately sidetracked, and perhaps a conclusion that's more bittersweet or sad where their desperation and loose of purpose forced their hand, but ultimately it's the memories they have that torments them. I do think however we will meet atleast one ascian who accepts what has happened and may even play a role as an ally for a moment. Whether they continue to exist or simply accept that their "duty is over" as the ancients did, who knows. Either way they'll go away from the ascians and they'll just be a footnote on the side as the story continues, though I hope they'll still play big enough roles, some of them, whether it be aiding us or causing mayhem. I also hope we might get glimpses of who they were in the past more. We'll likely dig into the Shards and we do know some were selectively assigned to cause a rejoining on them. I also think a story segment still left untouched is the Shards that were rejoined, and some events of some calamities we have very little insight on. Then the fact we've no idea the ancients full history, how they came to be or the very star itself.

I have to say, revisiting a lot of these Ascians and their stories makes you realise how they went from Evil Mwahaha Googieman to Actual People with a Goal they deemed just. It makes you wonder how much of Endwalker was even planned out back in the days of ARR or even 1.0. We know the model used for Ascian Prime was intended to be the 1.0 Ascian model, so I'd imagine the initial story for the Ascians changed with the move to ARR, but their goals and ways of achieving said goals seemed to change again after Heavensward, more specifically with Shadowrbingers. I mean why did the Ascians needs Louisoux's staff? How can the WoL's growth in power be called "the limitless potential of man" when it was the Ancients who had limitless potential and "Man" was seen, rightly so, as a mere fraction of what it once was? And why did so many of the Ascians look, act and even move like typical villains? Taking pleasure in the torment of those effected by their actions. Just look at the way Mabriales wiggles his fingers at Minphilia. Not exactly giving the impression of someone on a noble mission to bring back the lives lost to bring Zodiark about. I'm genuinely interested to see where the story was planning to go at each stage of development and how it changed over time. I mean, we were originally meant to go to Dalamud, not the other way around. So we know how some of the plans changed.
@Witandwitless2 жыл бұрын
In a recent live letter Yoshi P confirmed that Ascians lore was pretty much reworked in ARR and again in Heavensward. With 1.0 being such a shit show they weren't exactly planning on getting a decade of gameplay. Once ARR was shown to be popular and picking up steam they rewrote the background of the Ascians which meant a lot of retcons on their end in Heavensward. I say retcons but the way he described it sounds less like a retcon and more just a 2nd draft he didn't go in depth on how much they changed just that if you look closely at text in ARR there are some inconsistencies, but the bulk of their retcons were behind the scenes lore items they'd never even revealed to the players.
@StoutHelm2 жыл бұрын
Like others have said, the ascians were reworked when they realized the game had a future. Their original story was far too shallow and predictable. The writers did wonders to make the organization sympathetic in a lot of ways. We’re better off for it. But I also wouldn’t be surprised to run into more ascians down the line.

Something that you touched on briefly that I thought you'd go more into is the fact that there are potential shards of every convocation member on each reflection of the Source. This could be an important point going forward if and when we ever visit more of the shards because even sundered these individuals seem to be very powerful and could inherently have access to unique magicks that others simply don't even WITHOUT being elevated to becoming an Ascian again. We need look no further than Gaia on the First who even in her 15-17 year old reincarnated form had incredibly powerful magicks and could tap into them even without formal training. Yoshi P also mentioned that if an unsundered Ascian ever chose to be reborn they would be in line with what's expected of their world but just a little bit more "special."

I love all your videos. I have a few notes on this one based on my own studies of the Ascians: 1) Emmeroloth, Igeyorhm, and Nabriales, like Mitron and Loghrif, would have had different shards of themselves awakened by Emet-selch using their respective constellations. It is possible for all of them to be around. This is why we see Emmeroloth in that cutscene despite their other shard's death during the events that destroyed the isle of Eureka. 2) I don't think that using white auracite destroys an Ascian forever, "never to return to the Aetherial Sea," or unsundered (and dead) Emet-selch, who was destroyed with auracite, wouldn't have been able to help us out in Ultima Thule. 3) Lahabrea would have been freed to return to the Aetherial Sea upon the death of King Thordan (the primal), since Hythlodaeus was also released by Zodiark to return to the Aetherial Sea upon the latter's death. Otherwise, again, his dead self couldn't have come to help us in Ultima Thule. 4) Return to the Aetherial Sea, for an Ascian, constitutes a final death. They cannot reform themselves and return to the physical world as they can if they are permitted to flee into the Rift. 5) It is likely that the Black-masked Ascians can *also* reform themselves and return to the Rift as evidenced by the fact that a non-overlord--a Sahagin, no less--could effect the same ability simply by using the Echo. Not to mention that Zenos, using the Resonant, is able to do the same, allowing him to return to his body despite having killed himself at the end of Stormblood. I hope you see this as a loving and constructive comment and not as a criticism. Your videos have corrected my own views on canon many a time, and I'm hopeful that I might be able to humbly do the same for you.

I really want them to bring back Travanchet, or address that Ascian Prime that was just loitering around in a cutscene during 1.0. Since he keeps getting referenced, seeing Travanchet again or finding out that he's a former convocation member would be so cool.
@StoutHelm2 жыл бұрын
Travanchet is interesting because he’s the only named lesser ascian we know of. I do remember reading somewhere that the ascian primes were supposed to be the normal form for ascians in 1.0 but I don’t know how much truth there is to that.
@ouchie36232 жыл бұрын
I don't think we'll ever see anything again about most ascian lore from arr or 1.0 because they just silently retconned a ton of that stuff probably including that ascian prime you mentioned... Travanchet on the other hand I feel has a chance of being referenced again and this is just my own personal theory but I feel he's one of the sundered overlords we haven't seen because why would a black-masked be named? An important note is that it was said that Travanchet is probably not his real name - it is most likely, due to the french styling, the name of the Elezen host of whichever ascian took his body, which may make him someone we have not yet seen like Halmarut, or even Lahabrea, to whom we know changed bodies quite frequently by Emet-Selch's own complaint about the practice. Him having not appeared since heavensward, when Lahabrea was destroyed, and having come up in that same expansion, actually points to Lahabrea as a strong possibility, especially as he was, in a sense, the most important ascian in 1.0 and going into 2.0, where Lahabrea was similarly the 'face' of ascians during those expansions.

A few things off about this. The Amaurotians didn't know of the Song of Oblivion, not even Hermes, since he wiped his own memories. And they didn't summon summon Zodiark for the aether he would protect them with, they summoned him because the only cause they could think of was a stagnation in celestial aether currents happening right above an area that would soon be hit by the Final Days. They summoned Zodiark as an incarnation if Umbral energy to prevent the aether currents from stagnating. They were unaware of this, but that kept aether above the area, preventing the dynamis from impacting it.
@StoutHelm2 жыл бұрын
Your points are correct but they don’t really conflict with anything I said. My scripts are written from a meta perspective where we, as players, know the events and why they occurred, even if the characters themselves weren’t aware of it at the time. When I say stop the final days, I’m not implying they knew exactly what it was, but when the blasphemies started popping up, they knew there was a strange force they had to deal with. Same with why they went with Zodiark.
@themanofquagga2 жыл бұрын

Slight correction on Ighyorom and the other defeated none-Paragons. As sundered ascian, they could find another of their sundered forms and bring them up. I feel like it should be pointed out that, aside from the 3 unsundered ones, any other sundered overlord we killed was just 1 piece of the whole (big or small, either way). So atleast for the ones killed before Emet/Elidibus it's not impossible for the duo to have picked up new shards to fill the seats with while not letting them pick a fight with us (depending on how hard/time consuming doing this might be).🤔 Emet did mention he'd seen a number of replacements being made in the past... makes me curious now who managed to kill them before us and how. all we know is that all ascians, paragons included, killed post shadowbringers are dead dead. any ascian killed between ARR and pre-Shadowbringers could very well still be alive. since the non-paragon Ascians are simple shards of the whole and could exist on the remaining shards that havent been corrupted or rejoined. So we have Emet, Elidibus, Lahabrea, Fandaniel, Loghrif, and Mitron that can be considered fully dead, even if the sundered ones still have living shards they cant come back since the crystals to rekindle their memories have been destroyed. Igy and Nabs could very well have been revived by granting another shard of their soul their memories, off screen, between their 'death' and pre-shadowbringers. So we technically have at least 5-7 ascians that could pop up into the story at any time, on the whims of the writers if they so choose to employ them, or just brush the ascians to the side for new antagonists.

All we know about the Ascians now is that two of the Overlords and one of the Lesser are still active. Which means potential future foes in the story now the current arc has concluded. Since 6.1 takes the story in a completely new direction, the likelihood we'll encounter them again in the MSQ is unlikely. It's more likely they could be potential foil material for future job quests. The job quests are always designed so they do not spoil the MSQ for points that haven't been reached of yet and only contain any story elements from expansions prior to their launch point. Which likely means that the Overlords could show up in job quests which start at level 70/80 that are added in 7.0; Assuming we get anymore jobs added and were likely reserved for this but haven't been made use of. Though to be honest I don't think anymore jobs will be added to the game after Endwalker.

Emmerololth, Pashtarot, Halmalut. It was three unsundered that kept the plans going for rejoining Zodiark, now that He's dead I don't see why the last three couldn't try to summon Him again. All they have to do is kill somewhat over half the population of the Source to get the required aether. I don't think this is something they'll do in the game since the Zodiark/Hydaelyn arc is supposed to be over, but it would be a possibility otherwise. Realistically, seems the sundered Ascians are affected a lot by their mortal lives even after being elevated to their seats so who knows, maybe they'll just continue with their own works in bettering the star as they did with the convocation. Would be nice to see them later as allies or experts in their fields aiding the mortal races of different shards. Or heck, who knows, they might even show up sooner than that to help restore the Thirteenth.

It will take much more than half of the source to do that. The original summoning took half of the Ancient's, each of whom were huge beacons of aether who also focused their creation magics, to summon him. Its unlikely they'll want to do that anyway, given theres no point since the purpose of zodiarks existence is no longer around. Atleast a couple, most definately Travanchet, will go down their own paths and motivations in a less than moral manner.
@Angarato862 жыл бұрын
summoning him again would be pointless, them getting the aether required would be pretty much impossible, and his heart is dead too, and they summoned him to protect against meteion, who is gone so what would be the point? the people they wanted to bring back where inside zodiark but since he died they returned to the sea. their only goal could be to rejoin the world to the paradise at least but shards can't do that. soooooo literally 0 point
@HCSR22 жыл бұрын
@@Angarato86 It would be pointless, as I said "I don't think this is something they'll do in the game" so it is just idle musings. As for it being impossible, that's incorrect. As long as there's a will and a concept anything can be summoned, that's literally what we've been learning and dealing with for four out of the five expansions (considering 2.0 an expansion). There is no actual impediment for the remaining Ascians to cause more rejoinings, gather enough aether, and perform a new summoning if they were hellbent on it. Of course, that is not going to happen in the game, there would be no point narratively for doing it, lorewise/in-universe it's really unlikely but still a possibility until we know exactly what the goals and actions are of the remaining Ascians. But, again, realistically, they are not going to stretch this narrative any longer, the game is done with it. Only idle musings.

@@HCSR2 im pretty sure it is heavily implied that only the unsundered ascians can rejoin shards. also the sundered ascians cannot use creation magic afaik
@parky669 Жыл бұрын
won't the sundered have other versions of themselves on other shards? or am i misunderstanding how it works?

I love how all of the Ascian's plans were foiled by a "basic traveler's aid spell that prevents aetherial corruption." They probably learned it at summer camp.

This just makes me think on the two other people I keep adding into the ascian group but technically arnt which is (sry can't remember names) the white robe kid saved from the thirteenth that helped us with waring Triad but they were a wol. The other is another Wol that if I remember right was also from the 13th, the shadowkeeper, who was also saved by Elidibus and originally given the job to help ardbert and the others become wol then turn on them and as the shadowkeeper get defeated and ardbert would get his crystal. But that failed when he refused to fight her and instead he went after the ascians that were trying to make her do this earning his crystal by defeating them. She is still alive in shadowbringers and rather interestingly if you get the broken crystals from doing the roles quests in shadowbringers you learn that story and also get them as an option in a cutscene when you get to explain to the sin eater hunters from the role quests what's going on.

Those are interesting characters, we just don’t know a ton about them. There are also technically some extra ascians shown in one cutscene but it’s never elaborates on. Could’ve been an error.

It wouldn't shock me at all to see Pashtarot rear his head. We know now that he is a "sundered" Ascian (a shard gifted with the memories of the original Convocation member), but Fandaniel showed us that even sundered Ascians can be dangerous.

Accurate except for Loghrif, who is Gaia, and still alive.

what i mostly wonder is... arent there like. 6 other fandaniels and stuff left? hermes was sundered, his source shard died in endwalker but what about the other shards? just like ardbert and a few unknown shards of us(azem) are still around. it could be that the sharded ascians dont know theyre ascians cause emet-selch didnt give them their soul crystals to raise them up. but fandaniel's shards would still have those memories of hermes that he erased with kairos.

Bit late on seeing this, but I gotta say is that part of the in-character justification I used for creating the New Convocation of Fourteen was not only to fulfill Emet-Selch's final request, but also to have a dedicated counter-Ascian group that specifically studied their backgrounds as well as tried to fill their ORIGINAL purpose of looking after the world in order to potentially stand against the remaining possibly rogue Ascians still out there.... How successful my friends & I will be in that endeavor remains to be seen (especially since we STILL only have about half the seats filled in our group). Of course it would be nice if we could convince them to help with our research/give up on the whole rejoining thing (especially since like 2-3 of the seats there is almost NO information available whatsoever as to what their original purpose on the original Convocation of Fourteen even was....) I do hope the devs do have more stories or at least sidequests featuring the Ascians/Ancients in the future, though.

Maybe the Ascians that Gaius "destroyed" are hopping around other Shards, maintaining the existence of the Shards of Zodiark to be used against the Warrior of Light and continue the mission of restoring Ethyris.
@StoutHelm2 жыл бұрын
I’ll be surprised if there’s not at least one still floating around.

@@StoutHelm Same. The remaining Ascians are too good of a loose story thread to just leave hanging about without exploring what the remnant of their order is up to.

Its going to be interesting to see what they do with the other ascians now that zodiark is gone and the final days is no longer a thing. It could be they still want to rejoin the shards to the source, but there snot much of a point anymore. Well I can't wait to see what happens to the story now.
@StoutHelm2 жыл бұрын
We may not see them for awhile. They could be mucking around on other shards, but they’d be aware Zodiark is gone. Who knows what they will do now. And I’m like you, excited for the next chapter in 6.1!
