📺 Description:
Welcome to our latest video from the ASCO 2024 conference! In this presentation, Dr. Regina Barragan-Carillo from Cedar Folk Comprehensive Cancer Center discusses her groundbreaking research on the impact of Latino ethnicity on the gut microbiome composition in patients with metastatic renal cell carcinoma.
🔬 Study Highlights:
Objective: To determine how Latino ethnicity affects the gut microbiome composition and its potential impact on clinical outcomes with immune checkpoint inhibitors.
Methods: Prospective collection and analysis of stool samples from 59 patients (27 Latino and 32 non-Latino) using whole metagenome sequencing and NCAMBC analysis.
Findings:
Latino patients showed enrichment of 14 bacterial species, including Roseburia and Eubacterium rectale, which are linked to better outcomes with immune checkpoint inhibition.
Non-Latino patients did not show enrichment of these beneficial species but had a higher presence of Methylobacterium species, which may negatively impact patient outcomes.
Conclusion: Significant differences in gut microbiome composition exist between Latino and non-Latino patients, warranting further research to understand their clinical implications.
