Let's hear from, Rattana Salee, the sculpture artist from Thailand, about her artworks in the Sculpture Garden Singapore!
Chatuchak Park is a public park located in the northern district of Bangkok. The park was a project initiated by General Kriangsak Chamanan, who was the chairman of the committee of the State Railway of Thailand at the time. The land where the park now stands used to belong to the State Railway of Thailand, and General Kriangsak successfully opened the park on 2 January 1978.As a part of Chatuchak large-scale Park, this Park comprises three parks named Chatuchak Park, Wachirabenchathat Park, and Queen Sirikit Park.
Nowadays, the scenery of Chatuchak Park has changed dramatically because of major infrastructural projects in Bangkok, including the development of public transportation. It is now an oasis amongst concrete and skyscrapers and function as a large lung that helps purify the air from the toxic fumes that come from the surrounding traffic.
In this commission, sculptor Rattana Salee traces the six sculptures from the 1983 ASEAN Sculpture Garden project in Bangkok, Thailand, providing personal insights and analysis on each of it.
