The Journey from Karbala to Kufa: Yazid’s army imprisoned the women and children of the Ahl al-Bayt on the afternoon of Muharram 11. They took away the women’s veils, chained their necks, and tied up their hands. Children were also put in chains along with the women. Imam Zain-ul-Abideen’s (A.S.) feet were shackled and a metal collar was placed around his neck. In these precarious and uncomfortable conditions, the women and children were forced to ride on the backs of camels without any proper saddles. Then this grief-stricken and miserable caravan adorned with the heads of Imam Hussain (A.S.) and his companions set out on a long, painful, and humiliating journey from Karbala to Kufa and then to Damascus, the capital and stronghold of Umayyid power
