They are a huge band who love huge concerts and they set the record of the loudest band in the world by going over 130 dB (it's louder than a space shuttle taking off)

Eric (singer) is considered one of the greatest of all time in metal scene, you need to hear him in real singing, real screams (his famous 40+ second high pitch scream in Hail and Kill). fun fact Manowar signed their first album contract with their own blood, they got two world guinnes records, one for loudest band in the world and second for longest live show with 5 hours and 1 minute in Bulgaria. Try to check "Hail and Kill" or very fast and I mean brutally fast "Power" or "Fight Until We Die" or incredible ballad "Mountains" or "Master Of The Wind" and of course they have the masterpiece, 28mins long epos better than anything else ever "Achilles Agony And Ecstasy In 8 Parts" ... that song sit on the throne of metal

I had the pleasure of seeing Manowar back in the late 80's, probably 1987 or 1988. Small little music hall club, probably 200 - 300 people. Was so nice to see them earlier in their career and to see the crowds they play to now. I will say one thing about them: I wasn't a big fan of them at all from hearing their recorded albums. A friend convinced me to go see them telling me I'd be a fan for life if I saw them live. He wasn't wrong. This is a live band all the way. They excel playing live. It's what they were meant to do. Go see them if you have a chance.

You are right about the cult following. Very few other bands have so loyal and dedicated fans spanning decades. I remember going to Tuska (open air metal festival) once in a Manowar shirt and it didn't take long for someone to show up, pat me on the shoulder and call me brother.

these guys have been going strong for over 40 years...their fanbase spans generations...Grandparents to grandchildren loving this shit. I was introduced to them in 1987 and have loved their music ever since. A German friend introduced me when I was an exchange student where our cities were sister cities.

As far as crowd particiation, this is almost tame. The Manowarriors are a fanatical crowd. As for songs in praise of metal, this is the band. Metal Warriors next if that's your mood. Now you're in their home state and no one knows them. Eric Adams is a great frontman and a singer to put beside Bruce and Floor. The best sum of his singing art is Mountains. In the oficial site there's a version of Heart of Steel and the song Call to Arms, where he hits a fifth octave and a second octave note in the first verse.

As others said, the hand gesture is the Sign of the Hammer, title of one of their songs and albums. It represents one hand (the one grasping the wrist) holding up a battle hammer (the clenched fist being the hammerhead, of course). I've seen Manowar a couple times live. Great times. The only problem is that you must wear musician's earplugs or something so you don't destroy your hearing. They are the loudest band in the world and play so loud that it hurts and it sometimes leads to equipment malfunction (happened at a Monsters of Rock show I attended).

If you want awesome from Manowar? Try The Demon's Whip. It's all dirty and sultry and then at a point it goes nuts at about 240 bpm. Or try Black Wind, Fire and Steel. It has a 31 second scream at the end.

Only at a metal show would you see flags flying from every country on this planet and no one is trying to kill each other over it. Metal gets a bad rap for being angry and shit, but I see more unity, and REAL people with REAL passion for REAL music. You just have to look at any comment section on any video and you’ll see it. It’s got to be why metal has such die hard fans. Dont get me wrong, I hated 80’s metal. I was a punk rocker and we hated everyone 🤣 but after my year of enlightenment lol in 2019, I’ve grown to see the MANY layers of metal. While I still can’t listen to death metal, I’ve developed a love for symphonic metal in an instant. I can see the true love between the bands and their fans. This isn’t some fake ass shit. Pick any top 40 band right now and let’s see who remembers them 5 years from now never mind 20-30 like some metal bands. And don’t even get me started on the amazing talent in these bands!! No auto tune lip syncing bull shit. Can you imagine paying $100’s of dollars to see some fake concert??🤦‍♀️ When there’s talent like this and people look down on them because it’s metal. And these guys have to tour longer and harder to make the same money. It’s sad really. Sorry about the rant 🤣🤘🏼🤷‍♀️

Their prime was in the mid80s to early 90s. And they have always been controversial for being over- the- top sexist. So they never got any air play. They do have some absolute classics though. Their singer, Eric Adams, was elite in his prime. It is tough to find good live performances on youTube. One of my favorite songs is "Bridge of Death" from the Hail To England album. You will only find the album version, unfortunately. Other great songs are "Master of the Wind", "Defender", "Carry On", "Heart of Steel", "Hail To England"; "Hail and Kill" and not to forget "Black Wind Fire and Steel".

Die for metal is fantastic also Sabaton does a cover of Kingdom Come by ManoWar So ManoWar first started late 70s early 80s they broke the Guinness record for loudest band the Frontman I believe his name is Eric Adams he has one of the most powerful vocals in heavy metal history. Him and Joey DiMaio I think that his name are the only og members the hand crasp is their symbol ManoWar is the OG kings of Metal. They were the type of metal band that you would listen to when transiting from bands like Black Sabbath to bands like Metallica, Megadeth, or Slayer.
