Ash vs. Paul was the best of all time for so many reasons: 1. Infernape started the battle using Flare Blitz on Aggron, which means he took a great deal of recoil damage in the very beginning. 2. Nullified Drapion's Toxic Spikes, which was the smartest move of the match. 3. Defeated Ninjask. 4. Made an amazing comeback against Electivire with Blaze.

Since they are the literal antithesis of each other. Ash vs Alain is just carried by the animation. While Ash vs Paul didn't even need that level of animation to make people love the fight and claim it as one of the best battles in pokeani history.

No it wasn't. Not even close actually. It didn't make sense as to how a team of newly obtained Pokemon were able to go toe-to-toe with a champions team who has over a decade of experience. @@CoolNala Ash-Greninja is by far the best thing that has happened to the Pokémon anime, probably ever. It wasn’t cheap, it was fully thought out and it took Ash to a whole new level as a trainer since it gave him strength beyond anything he’d ever worked with before, but at the same time also caused him a lot of trouble and pain. It also gave us the best battles (Sawyer, Alain, Team Flare), we have ever seen in the anime along with the one vs Leon, as well as Paul. However it’s really a one-time phenomenon/concept so the fact that they’ve got something similar going on with his Lucario is the cheap bit in my opinion. And if they’ve retconned Greninja in order to build up on Lucario then that is just horrible storytelling. Retconning probably the second most popular Pokemon in the whole anime. Useless idea.

Oh yeah, my favorite battles are the one Dragonite against Haxorus, Charizard vs Blastoise, Pikachu vs Raichu, Lycanroc vs Lycanroc, Lucario vs Machamp and Infernape vs Electrivire. Those battles were awesome, Pikachu was able to beat Raichu thanks to agility. Surge’s Raichu evolved too fast and never learned speed moves. And that battle ready rage Ash’s Lycanroc had, it was awesome, it even got its anger under control even when its mane gets wet.

@@SeeMeNowJo yeah. Tbh I was hoping Ashs lycanroc would be the ace because I can tell it's strong because it did defeat 3 pokemons by itself and 2 ultra beast. That's saying something and it almost beat a legendary pokemon!

@@SeeMeNowJo but I never liked Ash vs Kukui battle because it was the most shamfull thing I ever seen of that poor lycanroc. It was way atronger then that and it could've defeat two pokemons but I hope it will fight again.
