Just some random thoughts after Dobbs started talking about Ash's pikachu... I heard this rumor that they once wanted Ash's starter to be a clefairy. Apparently the idea that Ash showed up late and all starters were gone left a hole where Oak could only give Ash the one pokemon he had left; a wild clefairy he caught while doing research at Mt Moon. And then the line: "I caught this pokemon in the wild and it isn't tame yet." would've made an equal amount of sense as when you get the pikachu in Yellow. And honestly, I would have loved to see Ash start off with a clefairy. I mean, imagine him with a disobedient clefairy. It's signature move is metronome and highly unreliable. But Ash has that Ash-luck, you know. So he wins a couple of battles. Brock beats him the first time (because double slap and pound just don't cut it against his rock types). Then the second time Ash's clefairy learns metronome (through special training with Brock's dad) and ofcourse Ash uses this to one-shot onix with a metronomed surf (which makes about an equal amount of sense as sprinklers do, imo). It even fits in the "I don't want to evolve"-storyline that pikachu goes through when they fight Lt Surge. Only now you get it earlier at Mt Moon. When they dance around the moon stone. And Ash's clefairy refuses. In later generations someone could even gift Ash an eviolite. So clefairy becomes really bulky and reliable and it actually legitimately obtains the plot armor that pikachu gets accidentally. Anyways, thanks for making it this far. Just wanted to ramble about the "Ash and Clefairy as a starter"-paralel universe for a bit :D

First movie Mewtwo is canon. It even appeared in the anime twice! 3:35 Again, you cannot blame Pikachu for that! He got struck by that HUGE lightning bolt from Zekrom, that disabled Electric moves, and possibly reset his powers down to Snivy's power. And now I shall go over the times Pikachu's level got reset: *Zapping himself with Drake's Dragonite *That time he got sick and shocked from Team Rocket's machines. *More Team Rocket shenanigans (Sinnoh, part of Unova's and Kalos) *Zekrom's stupid electric attack (the other part of Unova's level reset) *Using the Z-Move the first time against Tapu Koko (It destoryed the Crystal and probably reset his level as well. *Another thing is that the first time Pikachu Gigantamaxed, if was from external forces (the Energy going into him) so that could've reset the level a bit. And even so: Lumiose Zac Trainer says that Pikachu's a Glass Cannon, very easy to deal damage to, but if it hits with enough force, it could hit like a semi-truck! And Dragonite isn't free from this comment's debunking power either! The thing with Dragonite is that you can't use his current standing of being undefeated as a reason why it's the strongest, remember what happened to Goodra? It was undefeated but at the end of the series it fainted in official battles TWICE! Yeah so you can't use *that*! Plus don't forget: Krookadile has straight up BEATEN Iris's Dragonite, without HELP! Dracovish and Dragonite both did damage to each Haxorous and Dragonite! Yeah you can cut Pikachu some slack! His powers get taken away by external forces, so you can say sorry to Pikachu for what you did in the beginning!

I'll give you an example: you say that Iris is the weakest champion when it's universally agreed upon that Diantha is the weakest champion in the games. Not to mention Gardevoir was spamming non-STAB ghost-type shadow ball against a resistant dark-type Greninja and purposely not using moon blast so it was holding back. Meanwhile Haxorus was spamming super effective STAB Outrage, the strongest non-legendary physical dragon-type move, on Dragonite left and right. By that logic, Dragonite's accomplishment is more impressive. That's before we even address the fact that Ash-Greninja technically lost to Gardevoir because it fainted while Dragonite won. Ash Greninja also never actually beat Alain's Charizard. You can't use Charizard's accomplishments to booster Greninja. What I'm saying is that you can't keep taking Greninja's losses and counting them as a win just because the poggers animation of XYZ made him look cool. Journeys is still going on so Dragonite could end up losing more than Greninja by the end. Either way, the possibility of Dragonite sucking from now on won't erase the fact that it still beat a Champion's ace and took down Korrina's Mega Lucario and Mienshao in a row.

While it is true that none of ash's other Pokemon can claim to be the president of their entire world wide species, Ash actually has a few Pokemon that do come close. For example, his squirtle, it leads a squad of squirtles, his Pidgeot, is the leader and protector of all the pidgeys and pidgeottos near Pallet Town, Ash's Goodra is the guardian of it's home area, basically meaning it is the leader of not only it's own kind, but the other Pokemon that live there as well. Ash's Greninja was left behind to protect the entire Kalos region. So, yeah, he actually has several Pokemon that are leaders in their individual areas, or at the very least, important guardians.
