There wasn't any play-up of salty actions about either side cheating; both sides did react in confusion (and Ash of course believing Tasuguri was eaten alive), but, especially as the battle went on, both trainers respected each other and were going all out. Usually, the skit punchline is both sides pointing fingers and complaining. This was way more creative by comparison and, at least for me, is far more appreciated.

to be fair, some of the stuff that goes on is pretty brutal. He: poisoned his pokemon, purposely fainted it, had it get eaten first (which is... unique to the paldea region)... lots of "meta" strategies are fairly cruel

​@@gustavolopes5094yeah pretty much guy has often times been forced to lose like having all of his pokemon tired or injured from team Rocket's antics on his first tournament battle and having to rely on a handful of pokemons including one that didnt respect him yet (imagine if your pokemon could refuse to follow your orders in the game because they dont respect you enough, it would be a pain in the ass) or the entire fucking battle with Elaine, ultimately Ash has more defeats than loses because the anime forced him to lose more often than not But in the end he is the world champion

@@carso1500 Just fyi, pokemon in the games can refuse to obey you if they don't respect you enough. Depends on level and if the pokémon was traded to you. The more badges you get the higher the level of the traded Pokemon can go before it starts to disobey you. By the last badge the level cap is 100 so you don't have to worry anymore. That's always been the case btw.

What an amazing strategy. Having Annihilape use final gambit on Tatsugiri while it was using endure to weaken it to 1 HP. Taking out Annihilape which allowed him to summon Dondozo without switching it out. Then with Dondozo on the field Tatsugiri can use its Commander ability to power up all of Dondozo's states. But since Tatsugiri is using its ability it can't attack, so by giving him a toxic orb it is able to faint the turn after activiting its ability. Dondozo will still be able to keep its states boost and this would allow him to summon another Pokemon that could attack. Bringing out his Flamigo who had the costar ability that allow him to copy any state changes for the entries battle. What a perfect strategy. Sum: Quickly taking out Tatsugiri so it can use its Commander ability to power up Dondozo and not suffer the down side of losing one of your attacking Pokemon. Then powering up Flamigo with its ability to create an whole increase state duo.

this dynamic is often what i think about when competitive players think they could beat ash. i dont think anyone from our earth could come close to beating any experienced pokemon trainer in _their_ world without learning how to be an actual in-lore trainer. which means no excessive breeding and nature changes unless you wanna be evil, you gotta actually take care of your pokemon, and suddenly there are several more dimensions of complexity to every battle.
