Wolfey's problem is that he is running on the limited logic of the games, where you can only do a handful of things, because the Pokemon are nothing but ones and zeros that are ruled by their coding and stats. In the games, a fairly basic strat can decide everything because the Pokemon's stats and typing are the only things that truly matter. Ash comes from a setting where battles are actually far more flexible and complex, because the Pokemon are treated as living creatures with semi-realistic strengths, weaknesses and the ability to go past their limits through sheer willpower regardless of base stats and typing. They can even have off days and days where they are 100% 'in the zone'. Anyone trying to get through the anime battles relying purely on game logic would unironically get stomped, because the battles there are more than stats, typing and strats. Those factors still matter, but there's room for more intangible factors like willpower, morale, move combinations that don't/can't exist in the games, strategies that literally aren't possible in a videogame and outside-the-box thinking.

It would end up pretty much like this. We've had episodes where Ash faces trainers who rely solely on logic/strategies and treat the Pokemon as machines/tools who are ruled by their stats, and they almost always ultimately lose to Ash.

I think its hilarious jaiden actually DID lose by misplaying, albeit not in the way she thought. For example, in taking out the gliscor, torch song wouldve hit exactly as hard AND boost Dirge’s special attack. In addition, Hydreigon probably couldve KOd pikachu with dark pulse, and dropped a draco on infernape, while skeledirge shouldve either protected or slacked off. Wolfe just got bullshitted though LMAO
