I always loved her. That triple stile amazes me. She went so fast, the commentator thought it was a double!

Ummmm That's a Triple. He must have blinked in the middle of it!

I feel like a triple turn should give you at least a 9.9. Wow. What a talent. Triple turn at 14 years old.

Yes it was a triple turn :)

I know. I love her hair. I saw her on a TV talk show recently, saying she really stood out with the big Afro, but I think it's very becoming.

@@paulamiles9559She said on her Instagram she was trying to get her hair to look like Kristie Phillips! Beautiful as it is here, afros were looked down upon during this era so we did everything we could to get our hair to “comply” with beauty expectations.

She can do all that difficulty in tumbling but does leaps worthy of a seven-year-old? Kinda weird. Lovely originality, and that's the best I've ever seen her triple turn. Gorgeous.

Megan M her leaps drive me crazy

this is also before the code of points required a full 180 split or more on leaps and jumps.

Megan M She had the flexibility but was probably too timid to apply full amplitude.
@intldawn6 жыл бұрын
Megan M That sadly wasn’t uncommon around this era of gymnastics. That why people like Yang Bo were such a revelation, showing full extension on her leaps. Tatiana Lysenko was another. There were a lot of girls who didn’t even attempt full split on their leaps and I never liked it. Like Olesyia Dudnik. Clearly they could do it but it wasn’t a requirement back then.

its called an afro, wtf is up with your comment?
@seer16236 жыл бұрын
starcharm I don't think it suits her either. She was so elegant. Her later hairstyles did her more justice.

Her hair fit the time!!! I lived as a teen in this era and the Big Fro was IN!!!!

that routine is almost as difficult as today's world standards i reckon except for her leaps and choreo.

Who was her coach at the end? Was that one of Karolyi's assistant's? Betty was so amazing at this meet. I loved the reverse planche.
@KarlWarden7 жыл бұрын
This is before Betty made the move to Karolyi's in 1990. Karolyi would NEVER allow an assistant to be seen near one of his gymnasts... he wanted ALL the credit and screen time LOL
@dahighbar7 жыл бұрын
Karl Warden I think she should have stayed with this coach! I think she would have gotten more attention and had higher difficulty.. Its funny how everybody wanted to be coached by Bela during the 80 and 90s like he was the only one who could make you van Olympian.

Basically she had all her skills before getting in the Karoly factory.
