Sophie explains that when she had contracted Covid in November she had to spend a fortnight at home with her kids and dogs which wasn't very relaxing, and around that time she stumbled upon one of these Chechnyan MMA fighters and became obsessed and started drawing him. She then discovered several other Chechnyan and Dagestani fighters, and she was impressed by the warrior-like and medieval quality in their eyes and expression, which is something you no longer see in the West. Although of course life in Chechnya is difficult, they're hardcore Muslims, there was nevertheless something in their eyes which she became fixated on.
