When Burger King was setting up shop in Australia, they couldn't use the BK name as there already was a burger chain operating under that name here. So they came up with the name of Hungry Jacks for their restaurants. A few years later, the original Burger King chain disappeared from Australia. They could've taken over the name here but the brand of Hungry Jacks was so well established that they decided to keep it. Of course, the Whopper is the signature burger as it is in the UK and probably the rest of the world too.

Im a Sandgroper. We’ve had hungry jacks in my state since jesus was a boy. When i first got posted to Sydney in 1996 i was amazed to find there was only one hungry jacks in eastern sydney. Not sure how many there are now but even back then the eastern states was Maccas territory but macdonalds didnt have a real presence in Perth. Thats why West Coast’s major sponsor has always been Hungry jack. Hungry jacks is way better than Maccas.

@@tileux Maccas own NSW. Not sure of the exact numbers but I'd say there is 10 Maccas to every Hungry Jack's. Having said that, there are 100s of better burger joints around compared to these two.

Not quite right. Right about the burger king already Hungry's isn't owed by burger king. It's another bloke who owns it. So he set up the franchise's, later on burger king was allowed to use their name. And actually set up some burger kings and tried to do him out of business, I think they tried stopping giving him the ingredients or something and limit his supply. Anyway old matey hungry's took them to court over it and the court ruled in hungry's favour. Burger king closed their restaurant.

Glad you enjoyed the Blue Mountains. I live in a small town about an hour, or so, west of Katoomba. One thing I love about Australia, is that unlike many other parts of the world, you don't need to go far to before you're in a natural wonderland. Next time you visit I highly recommend a trip to the Royal National Park. It's Australia's first national park, and the world's second oldest. I'd also like to add, that near Lithgow is a place called Capertee Canyon. It's wider than the Grand Canyon, but shallower.

"A massive Grand Canyon but filled with trees" is a good description of the Jamieson Valley. Beyond the range for normal tourism is the Capertee Valley, which is pretty much identical in size to the Grand Canyon but green with lots of bush and also farming properties.

I'm glad you're enjoying our beautiful country, Ozzies consider it to be the best country in the world, we have wonderful landscapes and scenery, fresh air, clean waterways and beaches, in NSW we are the most highly taxed state but we have good infrastructure, roads and public transport with the occasional hiccough. This is how I want it to stay, not overpopulated and struggling to feed and house people because of it. We are lucky to have the example of other countries so as to avoid their mistakes. I hope you'll remember your trip with fondness, did you see our amazing wildlife? Thanks for your visit, cheers !!🥰😃👍👣🍔🚂🦘🐄🐑🐏🦜🐊🐦🐳🐬🐟🌻🐝🐜🐛🦋🐌🌴🌲🍀🦗🕷🍤🦐🦞🦀🦪🥩🚅✈🌞🩴📱

I grew up in southern Sydney and we could see the Blue Mountains on the western horizon on a clear day. They are called the Blue Mountains because the off-gassing of the eucalypts causes them to appear deep blue in that haze from a distance - cool eh? I lived close to the Royal National Park and our local scrub/forest/bush was the same. I endlessly explored that Aussie paradise. I'm so grateful.

I did my first RTW trip, solo, in 1987. I was away from the UK for 20 months, which included a year on a working holiday visa in Australia. I met this cute Kiwi bloke. He later followed me over to the UK once my travel onwards was done. A couple of years later we set off on a big backpacking ROWer as our honeymoon We ended up, after 3 circuits of the globe, back in Australia. 35 years on.. we are now into LSL trips spending in-depth time of 4 to 6 weeks traversing one country. We've just got back in fact, from Malaysian Borneo. (Long Service Leave is hands down the BEST Australian invention ever!!!!) Travel is my "Id" and hearing other people's excitement about theirs makes me so happy.

You can't leave Sydney before going to The Blue Mountains 🥰 My parents live in Blackheath which is another 10 minutes from Katoomba 💖 Hungry Jacks IS like Burger King. We use to have Burger King around 20 years ago, but the chain didn't last. You've managed to capture the blue haze on the horizon which is the reason why it's called The BLUE Mountains 😍 Walking down to the The Three Sisters, did you see those little animal statues along the path as well? YES, it's a KILLER climbing back up those stairs!! 🤣🤣 Love all the bird sounds as well. So peaceful, hey 😊 Did you end up going to Blackheath as well? Gavette's Leap is popular in Blackheath.

If it hasn't been mentioned yet, the Blue mountains are so named for the blue haze, believed to be caused by short wavelength scattering due to chemicals given off by the eucalyptus trees. It is possible to go down to nearby Wentworth Falls. I have a couple of photos lying around somewhere that I took from the other side of the falling water, out into the valley.

Much as I love the Aussie bush I agree that Bryce and the Arches should be on anyone’s “to see” lists and are arguably more impressive. Moab and Dead Horse Point too - so many amazing sights in the US west. The arid landscape makes the views more spectacular whereas the Blue Mountains have a soft sort of grandeur.

Actually, Bondi Beach, 'on it's own,' it like every other beach in Sydney, lovely, and scenery stunning. "The esplanade at Bondi," and all kinds of young and old people, backpackers, they leave their garbage and trash everywhere. The cheap food and memorabilia shops, and the over crowded pubs selling alcohol at the most exorbitant prices makes Bondi the worst place to visit. I live in Sydney and wouldn't waste my time or one cent visiting Bondi Beach, and it isn't easy to get to either 🙅‍♀️. Go to Manly by ferry, a beautiful slow trip, taking in the stunning harbour views. Manly council outrightly refuses to do what Bondi have done to their beautiful suburb and beach. They refuse to permit it to be littered and filled with crappy shops and hooligans of the worst kind. It's very pricey, but you will find that everywhere in popular scenic and touristy Australia. Don't forget to go down south of Sydney, better then going up north of Sydney. It's as pretty but they don't allow high rises, or hooligans to mess with their unique well kept coastal towns. Go to Merimbula if you want to taste the best prawns/shrimps EVER! Lovely fun couple. Safe travels everyone.

One thing that you missed out on by turning around on the Great Stairway is the scenic railway. Glad you liked it. I'm a sydney local and i love nothing more than getting out to wentworth falls and slacks steps (about two suburbs next to katoomba). That is both psychotic and the most beautiful scenes you'll likely every experience. The grand canyon at blackheath is also famous for possibly being the most scenic easy going loop track. about 2-3 kilometers total.

Oh, next bakery visit - tomato sauce on your sausage rolls and meat pies (meat pies from a bakery are a must.) The scenic railway, cable car and skyway are great as well. Take the railway down (largest drop of a train, but not that scary), cable car back up, then skyway across (not for those with a fear of heights as the floor has glass panels.)

I (Kelsey) love tomato sauce so I’ll definitely be trying that next time! We’re still yet to have a meat pie from the bakery, so we’ll definitely be trying one! Yes we did see this online, we didn’t get a chance to do it this time but we may head back and do it another time ☺️ thanks for watching!

Well worth taking a trip to the Blue Mountains for those magnificent views. If I recall correctly the area was hit by dreadful wildfires last year but I couldn't see any signs of lasting damage. That sausage roll/steak pie looked good, I'd have polished off one or two of those. 🤣

Glad you enjoyed Blue Mountains. Great place to go bushwalking but you have to be prepared. I went with a couple of mates back in the day and got lost and finally got back to our cars around 9pm. It was so cold and we didn’t think we were going to make it out at one stage. 😅

Lucky to have such a great view. When I was there I was astonished about the birds sitting in the trees like bunch of sparrows but so colourfull. Dont complain about the heat would like to change with you with the sun here as well but still -8, yes minus 8. Oh yes, and I remember the gondola ride down or was it it such kind of a train. Anyway, just spent a day with a friend from Sydney took me there. Enjoy your stay in Oz. For how long time did you planned ?

@@AshandKels Mostly people go for harvesting jobs. Make sure you will find one times ahead of the start of the season. After 2 years of struggeling getting the pacific islanders work force into the country due to covid, I assume you have to be quick to get an comfy job in this industry. I am sure you will make it. I would like to support those digging for gems(opals) or gold. Well you know some areas allow searching without having a claim or a permit so why not try to go for a furtune.
