My glorious MMO BROTHERS AND SISTERS! Thank you…. For your continued support and feedback during this development journey. Today we showcased a big system that is integral in the economy of Ashes and a major gameplay loop in the game. Please leave your thoughts on discord, forums, twitter and here on KZbin. Your thoughts are an important part of our iterative process. Hope you all enjoyed!! Much love and happy Halloween!!!🎉❤🎊

My internet connection isn't strong where I'm at rn so I can't tell if this is already implemented, but: Could there perhaps be class-specific skills for folks who are "inside" the caravan? Opens door to optimization potential for who's in & out, being able to provide more defensive / offensive / speed / utility potential under attack, etc.

I actually think that's a characteristic of the biome being entered, rather than a seasonal/time change. It's still very nice seeing the change but it does look like some sort of change in the forest style and perhaps a mist or fog layered across.
@Megaman8880 Жыл бұрын
This is exactly what I used to do in SilkRoad online probably 20 years ago. You'd transport goods from one location to another, and you could through an in game system hire other players to act as your bodyguards while you were traveling. There was a third job in the game in which other players would ambush your caravan, try to kill you and your bodyguards so they could steal what you were transporting to make money. It was a ton of fun, but unfortunately the game itself had a lot of problems with botting and hacks that eventually seen a majority of the players abandon the game altogether. I'm excited to do this again!

Transporting goods from one city to another in fear of thieves, while being protected by hunters(bodyguards)...brings me back to the prime Silkroad Online days. God I'm so hyped for this game. Silkroad had very rare drops called Seal of star/moon/sun for each tier of weapons and armor, Those special weapons had a cool glowing pattern and were already equal to +5,+10,+15. You could also add +1+2+3+4 etc to your weapons for an even more unique glow. For example a +3 weapon had a clear glow to it, +5 had pinkish red, +7 was gold, +9 teal. It was awesome to see a teal weapon because getting +9 was terrible rng, and seeing an SOSun +9 weapon was badass. I wish new games had something like this instead of everybody having the same weapons.

My god. And here I thought I was the only one that ever played that game. NO ONE I've met has ever been around that game. But I do remember the caravans that would go by, and thieves that are usually knipping at their heels... damn that does take me back.

I also remember the days of traveling with a caravan in SRO. You had those different uniforms/hats or the banner you wore on your back if you were a bodyguard. I remember getting peeled both as a caravan and a thief SO many times but gosh dammit it was fun every single time. This is definitely a throwback.
@brayden43 Жыл бұрын
This system looks so immersive. I can already imagine Verra feeling like a living and breathing world once the servers are live and players are given the opportunity to interact with it. Edit: The caravan travel looks insanely immersive, but the caravan turn-in once you enter town is very abrupt and felt out of place. I would love to see the player actually bring the caravan to a specific point in town rather than suddenly be teleported off their wagon and have it vanish into thin air.
@Mr.Stephane_L Жыл бұрын
Agree, or we will see thousand caravan vanishing at the entrance... Might disconnect the player from immersion.

Yes, absolutely! Seeing caravan traffic moving through the city to a drop-off point would be so immersive. Bonus points if the players had to reverse park it correctly :D Caravans should be safe inside the cities or close to them anyway, if guards do their job.

I agree on the caravan turn-in. Somehow I expected it to feel more rewarding and immersive.
@Teyloune Жыл бұрын
In my opinion, this was overall quite interesting and fun. I liked it a lot. I personally would appreciate the option to remove fallen trees from Caravan Events from the road, either by chopping them up or dragging them out of the way. If the players have the right equipment for it. + Clearing the road for myself and other Caravans feels like the right thing for me to do. However, choosing to go around the fallen tree should still be an option, for those that prefer to do so. I think it would be nice to have a command or feature that allows you to match your movement speed with the speed of the caravan you are accompanying, if you can go that fast. This could help avoid issues like in games with escort quests, where your speed doesn't match what you're escorting, leading to an unpleasant experience.
@purplesnek4069 Жыл бұрын
I imagine maybe a high level lumberjack could do it over an extended time, Forcing them to either go offroad looking for an alternate route or sitting in the road like a duck while it's being chopped

Really great showcase. When I saw the tree blocking the road, I started the imagine what could happen, if players have the option to chop tress and prepare an ambush. Of course this could be abused, but would also make it possible to block the economy of an entire node, which adds another layer of conflicts, for war between nodes

Something that might help make the nodes feel more alive is if each the caravan that is turned in to a node would continue to be noch driven around the town after its turned in for certain amount of time. So that a node will have more or less noch traffic based on how many caravans are turned in. It would be extra cool if they could keep the skins and aesthetics of the turned in caravan. This effect would be pretty cool way to demonstrate how much trade is in each city. Also if caravans ever end up having an option for guild colors and these aesthetics are retained when the npc drives it, it would be easy to tell at a quick glance which trade guilds are active in the city. Lore wise you could explain it as the node npcs/warehouse workers taking over and driving the caravan to the warehouse to be unloaded and then watching over the caravan for the player in the meantime. I.e cleaning it, basic general maintenance taking care of the horses, parking it somewhere safe.
@skyrim654 Жыл бұрын
Yeah I agree. I feel like being able to parade through town on your successful caravan run would be like icing on the cake. Also, I feel like it would add further life to the city/town.

A suggestion and a criticism: Suggestion: There is this old MMO called Silkroad of wich the entire premise was to create a dynamic caravan system to emulate the old Silkroad. It is a ridiculous game by todays standards, but they had this Thief, Hunter, Trader job system that worked really well and was super fun, with this awesome engine and today's technology you could create something truly amazing using that as inspiration. minor, petty criticism: The problem with this road blocked event is that this caravan is being run by a superhuman powerful warrior with magical abilities and a tree trunk is not an immersive realistic barrier.

I really love what I'm seeing so far with the caravan system. I really appreciate that it's got the sorta packaged system similar to ArcheAge where you spend some amount of resources to send to another node and that each node has it's specialties that other nodes want based on the amount they're getting. Really solid system. One thing I would note that would be cool to see is how actual materials play into these systems. I know each node has to have a certain level of access to each material so it can be generally self sufficient, but it would be very cool to be able to send for instance "bundles" of something like iron. It would require you to physically spend iron to purchase the bundle and then delivering the iron to the other node would then make it purchasable there. The price it's purchased and sold at would be based on the general availability of the material. Could even tie the value of these types of bundles to ebbs and flows of spawn rates of different material node types. For instance, if Node A is undergoing a shortage of Iron causing iron nodes to respawn more slowly, Node B could send some to them for a better price to players of Node B. Then this would help players of Node A still be able to get access to Iron at a normal rate overall.

It's been mentioned that having the caravan disappear suddenly is a bit off, and I agree. My suggestion is that once you are in range you are pulled off the driver's seat and the caravan becomes an non-interactable vehicle that then self drives (an npc maybe or just bring in tesla-vans) to the hunter's lodge. this helps with immersion, visual clarity and adds a good way of confirming the caravan is safe/you reached the destination successfully. Personally I also don't like that I says "victory" when you finish. This was a caravan, not some big glorious quest. If it's just me then ok, but it felt weird compared to something like "Trade Successful" or "Reached Destination". I am also still thinking about the fact that commodities are bought with Monster Drops compared to gold. Maybe I'm stuck in my archeage brain, but whilst the "potential gold" is lost if the caravan is stolen or something, you don't actually risk that much if it is lost. I understand that just selling it at the main node is one option, and the risk/reward is that price vs a trade price somewhere else, but you don't lose much in terms of value I feel. In comparison to buying materials/commodities with gold and risking that on the caravan. I think this is specifically because (unless there is more to come) commodities at the moment looks to be a 3rd resource that doesn't appear to be very interactable except for either gold trading or I assume (and hope) for node specific progressions/missions.

Very cool guys! The caravan is my most looked-forward-to feature in Ashes of Creation, and I'm happy to hear the high exchange rates in other nodes for cargo make the system worthwhile. Obviously might need balancing issues for exchange rate vs distance, with player demand for resources likely being a key driving factor as well (but I'm sure you guys are on all that, lol). Overall, very happy with how the system looks with the only input being that a higher cargo load would be nice, as the max 8 and minimum 2 slots seems a little small. Maybe certain larger caravans should be purchasable, but only for travelling larger distances? Seems like it would be fun to have different caravans with higher risk vs reward for larger distances, as well as making a fun 2-3 hour (maybe longer) experience for friends to enjoy. In any case, happy to see the progress as always! Good luck guys!

Caravan is looking a lot better than before, for sure! Do you think they will be critical to looting nodes that have been successfully razed? I heard razed nodes will for a short time be a looter's paradise, and we will have limited bag space. So, naturally, it sounds like caravans will be important in hauling the spoils of war. Would ultimately depend on what kind of loot and how much is expected to drop from various node sizes of course.

You joke, but falling trees doing damage to players and structures actually sounds really fun. Imagine an ambush set up along a roadside by weakening a tree or two, then having some guys jump out and drop the trees just as the caravan passes - not instakilling it, but doing decent damage and stopping/slowing it for a bit. It would also force players to keep their wits about them while woodcutting, instead of just walking from tree to tree with their brains turned off.

Love the progress. Questions 1. How do proctors get rewarded? Is there going to be some sort of contract system? 2, Will there be a system to transport passengers? I can see where crafters or lower level characters might need transport to a mode they otherwise would not be able to visit. Thinking more about cities and very specialized characters.

Man, if we can mount as multiple people on a caravan, it will be awesome with friends.

I'm vert excited to tdo trade runs in this game. I love that we can customize our wagons and boats for on road/off-road so we can be hired as traders to carry goods for other people because our wagons or boats are upgraded and protected. I think that's really awesome and my fav part
