I remember Ashington in the 70s. My step grandfather came from there! I loved going there on "holiday". He lived on Eighth Row!

Did my underground training at Ashington colliery in the 1970s. Was a busy town with no empty shops or charity shops. All the young kids worked at a pit or in a supply industry with good wages. Not now.

My "step" grandfather worked in this colliery. I had many a holiday in Ashington! My grandmother stayed there until a few years after Bart died. They lived in Eighth Row, many happy memories of this place
