Kerem and Aslı is a tragic love story from the Turkish-Azerbaijani popular poetry of the 16th century. The story probably originated in Azerbaijan or Eastern Anatolia and is widespread throughout the Caucasus and Central Asia. The story is commonly narrated and sung by ashiqs.
Bahman Ghorbanzade is a wonderful ashiq (Azeri minstrel) from Tabriz, an admirable player of the qopuz or ashiq saz. We were lucky to record him performing in May '22.
