Ashita No Joe Is conisdered to be one of the greatest sports mangas ever created, known for it's iconic scenes and incredibly gripping story, it's pretty good but is it just a "sports anime?"
One of the greatest animes ever!
Just so we're clear Joe is certainly a sports anime, it's more a figure of speech!

Very Fine! Very Very Fine! Hajime No Ippo and Joe are both great, lets not compare. it was originally longer but i don't want to add minutes to the video if they don't add anything to it!

I agree with the title. Although its technically a sports anime, the focus isnt about the sport and the way characters revolve around it all the time like Hajime no Ippo, but its focus is always on Joe and his character development. Boxing is his passion. Boxing in this anime is brutal and feels real because of the consequences of weightcutting and brain damage from taking too much punishment

amazing video my guy ❤ it's also sad to see how carlos turned out, i genuinely cried watching ep 39 :( because he was a very very strong man! also the author#chiba and kajiwara were arguing in a bar if they should kill him off or not, chiba was against and kajiwara was for, the bartender (or someone in the bar) thought they were part of the yakuza and that they were talking about a real person so he called the cops on them and another is where joe lived but is under care with yoko like carlos did and ended having the same faith as carlos 😢

3:15 This same man that helped Joe make a comeback, Rikiishi's death left Joe with a hole in his heart fs but with Carlos it's lowk different. It's like Carlos is sumn type of vase that was passed on from generation to generation, that's how valuable Carlos is. And yet, Joe had broke that vase. No matter how hard you try to repair it, it's gone. Even if all the evidence of the brain damage points towards a sibling whom was chasing you and you ran into the vase, the one who broke the vase is still you. That's how Joe felt it was with the evidence of Carlos Rivera's brain damage pointing to Jose. AnJ's main theme is literally all the themes you've seen in AnJ.

@Chazza_SR You talked about my favorite Anime of all time. I absolutely adore Ashita No Joe. Thank you. It means so much to me to know there are other people in the world who still remember and love Ashita No Joe . It's a beautiful tragedy that is haunting yet emotionally moving to soul. Yes Ashita No Joe both seasons is old but it is gold. And yes I call it a masterpiece. I have never felt this emotionally moved by an Anime before, yet Ashita No Joe managed to make me nearly sob from agony . It's a rollercoaster of emotions I can't properly articulate. The artstyle is gorgeous and stunning in my opinion. Honestly my favorite artstyle in Anime .

I like the way how ANJ treats boxing. Boxing is a sport which attracts many people from many backgrounds. Every fight in Joe isn't just a physical fight. It's a fight between ideology and style. Each fighting for different reasons, each hoping to get something out of the sport. But it's also brutal. Every time a boxer gets into the ring, they risk never being the same person as before ever again. Mostly thanks to brain damage, but also thanks to the mental toll the sport takes. Boxing is barbaric. There is no world where punching others in the face isn't barbaric. Which is when the show brings up the question: "Why? Why do boxers box? What is their motive? Is it more important than the physical and mental damage they endure after every fight?"

I mean that question can go with everything. Why do soldiers fight other people's battles? Why do people climb mountains? Why do people do drugs? Why do people go to the movies and risk getting robbed on the way back when they can just stay home and pop a pill ?

Maybe the answer is the fear of death. The thought of dying can be very overwhelming for someone who doesn't think about it that much. I think that maybe what we strive for when we do such things is to win over the fear of death,sure having fear of death is a normal thing but as you live you realize that the fear of death becomes your bondage

Ashita no Joe is one of my all time favorite anime shows to date. Easily in top 5, maybe top 3 even. I watched this years ago and I was left speechless after the last episode and man what a journey it was. Must rewatch it somday soon. SP. It's always a pleaseure to see that there are still ppl who appreciate well written and overall made anime without judgin by the older animation style. I personally think that it even gives that extra something what makes the show feel a bit more dramatic anda serious as the show itself is too. Just 10/10 show.

I think also the reason rikiishi went to Joe's weight class was because catchweight wasn't as much of a thing back then as it is now. But a welterweight to bantamweight cut is literally ridiculous, no boxer is ever doing it irl

5:34 no. Not being mean but, fucking no did we see the same show? Joe, on the first episode, held his own and threw around Yakuza members until Danpei intervened. In the 3rd episode, HE THREW NISHI ACROSS A ROOM. NISHI IS LIKE ALMOST 7 FEET. HE HAD TO LOSE WEIGHT TO GO MIDDLEWEIGHT, HE'S A NATURAL HEAVYWEIGHT. JOE IS 118 AND 5'6. IN THE SECOND, HE PUNCHED STRAIGHT THROUGH A PUNCHING BAG WITH NO GLOVES(it was an old punching bag, but it's still impressive). Joe also did DEFEAT AN ENTIRE PRISON FOR "PRACTICE" BEFORE HIS RIKISHI FIGHT IN JAIL.

yeah thats on me! i should of phrased it a bit better What i meant was despite Joe being Talented and obviously a complete monster, he isn't untouchable by any standards I think i cut the follow up point! my mistake
@crabohato4954

@@Chazza_SR In the first couple of episodes, I do think the show is trying to show that Joe is physically unstoppable. He does get sent to jail, but not before escaping custody by defeating an entire police station. He then goes on to ragdoll someone like Nishi. I also forgot to mention that after throwing him, Joe defeated Nishi with just jabs. He's unstoppable until he meets Rikishi, who completely humbles him. Joe learns at this point that even though he's a monster, there are greater monsters than him. And if he wants to challenge someone like Rikishi to fix his ego, he needs to start becoming dedicated to boxing. His talent alone won't help him overcome Rikishi, who can easily knock out bulls. He needs passion to defeat Rikishi

Hajime no ippo, infact shows the tragic side effects boxing can have, alot. Granted, hajime no ippo kinda glorifies reckless fighting, yet they still go out of their way many many times, to show the dark side of boxing and how much, noumerous fighter have to sacrifice in order to be a professional boxer. From takamuras flat out torturous diet and weight management in order to keep fighting multiple classes under his natural weight class. to date eji who got his right hand and his jaw literally smushed, ending not only his dreams of the world champions title, but also ending his career. Or nekota who was a talented fighter with infinite potential, catching drunk punch syndrome because of fighting recklessly.. also ending his career. This time, before it even began. Speaking of punch drunk syndrom, remember the one guy who got like mauled by sendo, leaving him permanently damaged? Which again, ended his career obviously. The negative side effects of reckless fighting get alot more adressed in hajime no ippo, than you give them credit for.
