Grand Prix performances often get swept under the rug because the program is still developing. This performance gets lost because she didn’t have a good nationals, gpf, this season and worlds was forgettable. But this was when it showed Ashley Wagner meant business. This was at the beginning of the Russian rise and she came from behind with just spectacular musicality and clean crisp jumps and won by a good margin. I know she wanted the double Axel/triple toe but good on her for not trying to force it. This was my most favorite Ashley free skate. The original Samson. I didn’t care for the rebirth for Sochi. I felt that she had a good program going with Romeo and Juliet just a bad nationals. I digress. Splendid job. Ashley at her very best. 😊

This is a fantastic program. Ashly skates this with such maturity and conviction. I think it is a good decision on her behalf to skate to a program she truly feels 100% while in SOCHI! Go for it Ashly and skate great!! Best Wishes for health and safety.

I love this program and the "Romeo and Juliet" program equally. They are both great. Ashley is the American hope for a medal in Sochi. Go Ashley !

Also love her SP music this year....I have only seen Michelle Kwan be able to pull of The Red Violin....takes a very mature, artistic skater to effectively perform that piece!

I'm going to say something and then I'm going to hate myself for saying it, so let me precede it by saying that this is NOT a critique of our awesome female athletes, but rather this sport (which I do love watching, but can't handle sociologically)... I think a large factor in the dearth of top US ladies is body size/shape. Ashley has gotten trimmer with age and I think that's improved her skating, or at least improved the grace of it. Polina, IMHO, has nothing going for her but a long, lanky ballerina body, which makes it easy for her to appear graceful, and I think she's incredibly overrated and would like to see Mirai on each Nats podium instead of her. Mirai never got back into juvenile shape after hitting puberty---most "normal" women don't, right?--and thus, although she's still got her incredible talent (flexibility, spins, jumps), her programs are not as breathtaking as they were in Vancouver, etc. I'm not super familiar with pre-2014 Gracie Gold (nor do I have a great desire to be.... Just thinking of her Firebird makes me fall asleep at the keyboard), but she seems not to have gone through a rough patch (nor has Carly, except height, surely). But to be a top top top skater you need to be rail-thin AND strong as an ox, and I wonder if that's why only a few of our ladies have made a splash internationally, unlike the Sashas and Michelles and Sarahs of a decade ago. It's really unfortunate, 'cause watching this last Nats (2016), there're so many incredible athletes whom the judges just totally discard. That being said, this is my favorite LP ever, I adore Ashley, I love her as a red-head and/or ombré brunette, and I can't wait to see her Eurythmics SP this season!!! #Wags2Korea2018

I’ve never been a skater, personally. But I keep up As Much As Possible, With the elite figure skating competitions. I was reminiscing over US skaters that I love, and I just appreciate Ashley Wagner so much.. Michelle Kwan was the first legend I Knew of from a young age. "Samson and Delilah" is a fantastic choice of music for her and it is fantastic to see that she is picking up exactly where she left off at the end of last season! I hope she can rework and add more drama in the last 90 seconds of the program to match the music's intensity! Joannie Rochette in 2010 is a great reference to this. She is off to a great start....let's see if she can break the 200 mark this season!!!

The other threat to Ashley's ranking is an influx of incredible Russian figure skaters with. Lipnitskaia being one of them. I also think that Asian skaters are losing their influence as well. We shall see.
