This is honestly one of my favorite HSM songs because even if the song is the same, the feeling and meaning can change so much depending on who is singing it. When Troy and Gabriella sing this song it is a love song "i like you, you make me feel like no one else", when Sharpay and Ryan sing it it's like a bubbly friendship song "we're the perfect team, i'm happy when i'm with you", but when Ashley and Lucas sing it it's more like a "you were there for me in a way no one else was, and now we look at the past and what we've been trough, the ups and downs and i'm glad i got to live that next to you".

As someone who was in theater and have had this kind of nastalgic moment I totally get how weirdly amazing it is to hear a song you haven't sang in such a long time and have it be connected to such fond memories. I was a background character in the show Guys and Dolls in high school and almost 15 years later I heard a song from the show and I just instantly got taken back to freshman year and singing to the song. My cute little 2 year old daughter was like "what's this?" And I was like "oh. Oh child. Let me teach you." So sereal to also be able to teach your children about experiences you have been through and have them be such a happy time. I was only a background character and did not sing at all during the show but still find it to be that key point in my childhood that sparked my youthful love for theater.

In my head canon, this is like Sharpay and Evan years later, or maybe just in college. And they’ve grown and learned a lot as performers. Grown to have a respect for slower power ballads in addition to their upbeat style that they had in high school. Growing and evolving as performers. Also Sharpay was so driven and ambitious in her acting. I find it hard to believe she would really just go back to teach high school drama as an assistant and be content like that. I’m sure she just used that as time to regroup and maybe went to Juliard the next year, or just another acting school.
