Hi Ashraf, my question is What do you mean the feast? Like just one day feast or how long they are feasting? I hate to see them o be hungry but I respect that.

A simple Google search would have told you that Ramadan is from April 12 to May 12.

We fast during the day, and have iftar at night. We eat early morning before the sun comes out. And at night after the sun sets we also eat.

I have a quick question on the word "Muslim" that automatically raises the red flag as a warning for safety reasons. How should "Muslim" be correctly used in ASL? No offense, but I don't mean to disrespect your choice of signs for this word. Don't you think that "sign" is a bit insensitive, do you? It awfully looks like a "gang sign" to me, to be honest. The index finger and thumbnail significantly characterize that specific handshape as "Crips" in gang culture. I'm sorry, but it's true! images.genius.com/b558784a3b503d0a396e1140595bf4ae.720x540x1.jpg It looks exactly the same to me as "Crips." You should replace that choice of "sign" with the word of Muslim. As Ashraf signed, the word for Ramadan is more fitting and appropriate to describe the religion. Maybe you can sign "Muslim" on your forehead, such as "Ramadan" on your jawline. Or anything else, you know.

I'm pretty sure it's the crescent moon, based on the Star and Crescent, the symbol for Islam. I don't think they're going to change their sign just because it happens to look like a gang sign. Plenty of ASL signs look the same as gang signs.
@S25Mable3 жыл бұрын
@@meetsnarf9051 Yes, but most signs move around all the time, unlike gang signs that don't move and stay on the same spot. For the "Muslim" sign, deaf people are more likely to be physically beaten up or fired at with a gun if they refuse to change it. You need to remember anyone who is in the gang is easily misunderstood and automatically assumes that you made fun of them because they are gang members. BE CAREFUL!

@@meetsnarf9051 Oh, right! I forgot. According to the religion in itself, it is funny how you mention the "crescent," the "moon," and the "star." How about signing "moon" for Deaf Muslims? I believe it would be much easier and safer to use that in ASL. **winks**

@@S25Mable I understand what you're saying, and I respect your point of view, but I'm not sure it's as much of a danger as you say. Do you think ASL should get rid of the "F" handshape because it looks like the gang sign for "blood killa" (according to the image you shared)? I just don't think that's how language works. I mean, I know ASL is constantly changing, but I don't think it changes to suit gang members. I think if a gang member is going to beat up someone signing, they won't wait until they see the sign for "moon" or "Muslim."

@@meetsnarf9051 Yeah. I'm on the same page with you. You can also tell them that the ASL existed long before the Gang Signs appeared at the end of the 1970s. American Sign Language has been frequently used for many years since the 1800s.
