I really liked and appreciated this video for not adding any misleading information, especially since the number of Muslims (especially Shia Muslims) has rose over the past few years in Japan. For those taken aback by the self-flagellation, there is a very large debate about it within the community and sadly, some people follow "traditions" rather than what our religion says. Blood makes us impure hence we cannot pray, therefore anything that withdraws us from prayers is not allowed. (aside from that, self-harm is forbidden). Other than that, the accuracy was on point. A few informative points: So the beating of their chests with their hands is referred to as "Mataam" and we do this as a sign of beating our chests out of sorrow and grief, just as the family of Imam Husayn a.s. did for all the martyrs. The 'songs'/'hymns' are called "Nohas' are usually poetry expressing the sorrow felt by Shia Muslims for their leaders and the tragedies in Karbala. The stands where food and drinks are distributed is called a "Sabeel", and we give out as much as we can so that no one goes hungry or thirsty as the families in Karbala did. The man who was preaching the story and sobbing on the chair is referred to as a "Maulana" and they are scholars who tell us the stories (a.k.a Majalis) and sacrifices that took place in Karbala in great detail, which is why we cry.

Even at time we I see people engaging in tatbeer that is cutting themselves wouldn’t invite anyone in our realigion.. they would be scared to see what these guys do… we need to show the world what shiaism is and not to scared them by our action. Agree with your comment on blood being impure and anything that keeps us away from prayer is not allowed. You mentioned people following traditions rather than religion. But then beating of chests( maatam) falls under traditions? Every muslim remembers the tragedy of Karbala but this tragedy is not different from the tragedies of Badr or Uhud. If we start beating our chests for all our Shuhada then there won't be a day left in our calendar. All innovations are misguidance and all misguidance will be in hellfire. May Allah protect us all.

Meaning, the Prophet Mohammed Peace and Blessings be upon him and his Ahlilbait. That is the first. His Ahlilbait, initially, are ; # 1. Ali son of Abi Talib a.s. second best and first successor of the Prophet of Islam ( S ). He is ameer_ulmo'meneen / the commander of the faithfuls. Anybody else claimed that title is a joke and liar # 2. The Lady of Haven, the Prophet's daughter, the wife of the Prophet's first successor ; Fatimah Az-zahra a.s. # 3. The first grandson and second successor of the Prophet of Islam ( S ); Imam Al-hasan. # 4. The second grandson and third successor of the Prophet of Islam ( S ) ; Imam Al-husein . These are the core of Islam. It was about them and them only that this verse of the holy Qur'an was revealed. اعوذ بالله من الشيطان الرجيم، بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم * إنما يريد الله ليذهب عنكم الرجس أهل البيت و يطهركم تطهيرا * Verily, Allah wants to remove uncleaness from you [ O ] ahlalbait and purify you with a thorough purification. Over the time, nine more Imams from the descendants of lmam Al-husein would take Muslims' affairs leadership. The last one of those Imams is the awaited Mahdi a.s. He will be also the last one of the forteen infallibles. Worth noting that not EVERYONE following the Ahlilbait is excited about beating themselves up. However, it is permissible to show sadness and grief for HOW MUCH of suffering the Prophet of Islam and his Ahlilbait went through. Thank you for the video especially your open mindedness & consideration you showed. This seems like a very cultural Pakistani/India shia community in Japan. The cultural element can be very different depending which shia community you look at. There are Iraqi, Iranians, Lebanese, Bahraini, Saudi shia etc communities around the world I think this community could do a better explanation for you behind reason for commemoration. The sermon & recitations were all in a language you wouldn’t understand. I can see you did have parts people explained something to you. Maybe your videos are to look more at the cultural aspects than religious aspects. One area which stirs a lot different views is the the blood letting. Reason is it minority practice even within the shia community. But usually reason used to attack shia. The mourning part is bit is the common part. There is story behind Arbaeen it more than just being 40 days after the prophet grandson ( Hussain) martyrdom. It was when the orphans & widows returned to place where they lost their loved one only because they refuse allegiance to a cruel evil dictator. It is hard explain all they went through & who they were. This reason for many emotions. It be nice to see you do videos in other shia communities. That's another one you had no idea. Hygiene, science etc. You just don't know. Ahlulbait are the core of Islam. Other people took over the power by force and worked really hard to erase any traces of Ahlilbait a.s. We have heard about ten to fifteen percent of life stories and achievements. Better know first.
